Billy Jones replacement for Matt Lowton

Post by Woodleyclaret » Sun Mar 05, 2017 4:46 pm

When the Mackems relegation is confirmed we should be straight in for Billy Jones he looks ideal to solve our right back problem.

To continue our habit of employing players from recently relegated clubs.

I'm not sure we have a problem at right back that warrants immediate action, now crosses, or the lack of them from the right, should be addressed in the next transfer window.

Our right back problem should have been sorted in January .Matt Lowton is a liability .allowing countless crosses to get past him usually resulting in goals. He drifts off his man far too often.

Is this because he's currently having a half decent game against City?

Sunderland fans generally think he's gash.

Jones ended up having a poor second half V City, Lowton is one of our most improved

I remember the good old days, when it was always the LB that got slaughtered on CM, regardless of who was playing in that position.

We don't have a right back problem, and if we did Billy Jones wouldn't be the answer.

If they do go down I'd rather go for Pickford.

Pickford will be signing for one of the big boys this summer, not a cat in hells chance of him signing for us. Anyway unless Heaton is leaving we don't need another keeper.

I'm sort-of tempted to give our full-backs a partial pass on the "number of crosses coming in" problem.

We seem to defend very narrow with the full-backs tucked in and a lot of cross-blocking responsibility delegated to the two wide midfielders. Brady and Boyd were neither use nor ornament in that respect yesterday, not for the first time either.

You'd be right to give our full backs a pass.

Defending narrow has only been going on for the past 4 seasons, and the success of it is for all to see in black and white.

I can remember a time when Trippier and Mee were being called for not being close to their wide men and the suggestion that they were out of position a lot.

Woodley claret, I think we bumped into each other at the services before Swindon on M4 (Delaware?), nice to meet you.

I have to disagree about Lowton though, I think he's our most improved player. Our system of being so narrow should never be played against sides with true wingers like Swansea. I could see somebody like jones possibly as back up to lowton, taking for granted Flanagan isn't here for the long term (fingers crossed).

Lowton has been as good as any of our defence unit of late and is really coming on and nailing that position for me MOTM last week at Hull and not far of the pace yesterday either

Fao Holty yes we did have our tea at services and I totally agree with your comments 're Flanaghan. Our loaning players of late had been awful for some reason with Chalobah Bamford and now Flanno all poor.

I was excited when we signed them all. Flanno was biggest disappointment though, he had so much promise a couple of years ago.

If your full backs need help with stopping crosses then its your full backs that aren't good enough defensively, Robertson wasn't being brought in as back up was he ?

I think lowton is having an excellent season. However, if we move Flanagan and Darikwa on, then Tommy Smith at Huddersfield would be my shout.

To me, two problems with Lowton, too small and too slow. Other than that, he's great.

...............because Brady gave him ZERO help

Wardy has been the biggest surprise to me this season, I honestly think he has been superb for us, he's delivered performances way above what I thought he had in his locker

If a full back can't defend 1 v 1 against a winger then it's your full back thats your problem, not your winger, if he had been overloaded 2 v 1 then you have a point.
