SD = Stubborn Defender = Stolid Deployment
SD is best when he's consistent and worst when he's consistent. It is his strength and his weakness. There are times when even the simplest of footballing brains knows he's got it wrong, and times when he dumfounds the most intelligent by keeping to the script.
He is the most aggravating of managers, part genius, part Neanderthal.
Can he, will he ever change or has the mould been cast.
Sometimes I do wish he'd let the reigns go and discover his inner McIlroy.

Why don't you go down Gawthorpe and point out to him where he's going wrong?

Reactive not proactive is his biggest weakness.
He is very loyal, and a few of his trusted loutenants let him down today.

He has had a few games where he's been proactive and won but he doesn't appear to learn from that.

Supporting Burnley and the Labour Party can be very frustrating with two hugely intransigent leaders, albeit one is considerably more successful than the other.

Re: SD = Stubborn Defender = Stolid Deployment
ABC is right. Dyches says he takes one game at a time but I get the feeling he plays the odds.
If we play these tatics week in week out the chances are we will get enough to points to get promoted.
If we play like this week in week out the chances are we will stay up.
It seems to me that consistency week in week out is what matters. If he thinks that's enough to do enough over a season then that's the way we are going to play.
Just a bit boring

Re: SD = Stubborn Defender = Stolid Deployment
By playing a more defensive style with the holding midfielder he might actually release the attacking potential in this side. We are so frightened of conceding, of protecting our back four we just don't function as an attacking unit, by giving that added protection we might just gain the resolve to make a go of it. Certainly worth trying away from home as nothing else has worked.

Ah, I've just realised this is another effort by you to get Tarkowski in the starting line up as a defensive midfielder....

Re: SD = Stubborn Defender = Stolid Deployment
Many people get me wrong on here. If you read carefully I always put suggestions that I think might improve our performance, for me it's about maximising our chances. As I stated in the opening comment SD confounds me often enough but when it comes to tactical astuteness at times even the most ignorant supporter might see a better plan, as to whether it might turn out better, who knows because it ain't going to be tried.

I'm not saying SD is wrong, when a manager prefers Dean Marney in the middle of the park to Steven Defour you have got to understand that his mindset puts workrate and selflessness before excitement and creativity.

Come on CT, ABC's topics are varied and rivetingly exciting, the mb would be worse if he stopped posting his own brand of garbage, comedy value!
Agyei to start vs Liverpool, anyone?
