What is there to do in Liverpool this Sunday

Post by Rick_Muller » Mon Mar 06, 2017 2:39 pm

OK, got the tickets for the match - boxed ticked. Planning on spending the whole day in the city and I was looking for suggestions on what to do with my lad while we wait for kickoff - including on where's best to park...?

Lark Lane is quite nice. Near to Sefton Park and Aigburth. Full of bars and restaurants / bistros

Depend on lads interest Albert Docks is worth a wonder around with Maritime Museum
Also the British Music Experience opens this week which might be worth a visit

Can't advise on parking tho as we'll probably be parking at relatives in area and getting lift down

thanks so far - lad is 17 in a week, difficult age and not sure whether he'll like the Albert Dock and the museum but may be worth checking out. How easy is it to get to Anfield and back from there though, if I park at the docks?

Side note about the Everton Store in the shopping centre

The address reads;
Everton 2
Liverpool 1

Lots of shopping for a young lad. The museums are free (donation). It's a vibrant City centre so I'm sure you will find something.

Less than 4m to the ground from City centre so won't be that much in a taxi.

Don't forget to pay to have your car minded if you park near Anfield. Thens there's a chance it will be there and in one piece when the games over

Some of the food places on Bold Street are the best I've sampled in the UK, Liverpool 1 shopping is very good and as mentioned Albert Dock is good for a wander around even for a 17 year old...........great city

Tate Liverpool in Albert Dock is a superb art gallery: saw a Jackson Pollock exhibition there before traveling to the Turf. Beatles museum is also great, particularly if you were alive in the 60s. As for eating, Cafe Lunya http://lunya.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is excellent

There's a little-known cult band from the 60's called The Beatles. They were from Liverpool and you might find a small exhibition dedicated to them in a quiet corner somewhere.

If you don't fancy that, there'll be some mourning on in the cathedral.

I like Liverpool, had some great nights out there. Always pretty good on St Mathew street including Cavern, etc.

I like Liverpool as a city (well in and around the centre). It's bloody impossible to avoid the sodding Beatles though. I'm all for them remembering their history and being proud of their sons (and daughters) of the City, just not to the extreme it's always pushed - it gets a tad tiresome.

Even worse on the ferry, they've got Jerry Marsden on a loop.

You could always try Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre The Old Stable Yard Smithdown Lane Liverpool L7 3EE, a quite unbelievable experience open from 10 till 5pm on a Sunday. You won't credit where you are and how on earth these caverns and tunnels were made.

Going off the info on various websites looks like there are a few places to park anywhere from £5 to £10 (presume you get extra protection at the one for a tenner hehe) dockers club keeps popping up so think we'll be heading there it's the home of Waterloo Dock on Townsend Lane then 15 minute walk to Anfield, fiver. Apparently it has over a 100 spaces but best to get there about an hour before kick off.

Not the best age to find something they might be interested in.

Take a look at this link, it may give you some inspiration, you never know.

By the way, The Beatles came from Liverpool.

Try the new Central Library in William Brown St. The architecture is brilliant and my favourite modern building. You can also go to the top floor, its got a roof terrace with spectacular views over Liverpool. Well worth a visit.

Thanks for all the recommendations - I really appreciate it. I think we'll get there early and I'll park at Liverpool One for the day and take in the Docks etc and get a bus to Anfield and back from there.

I worked on there for 18 months. Lovely building and very busy when I went back to see the finished article.

The rumour onsite at the time was they had to send 8 books worth over a million each to different storage places while the work was carried out. Never got it verified but certainly common chat round the site.

If you're parking at Liverpool One all day you might need to take out a new mortgage.

Most city centre parking is expensive, but Liverpool One is probably the dearest.

If you're going early, I'd probably park on the street near Sandhills station and get the train into town. The Soccerbus picks up and drops off at Sandhills as well.

There's 3 or 4 council car parks next to the library for about 4 quid all day parking. About 5 minutes walk to Liverpool one.

Parked behind the Ibis/F1 on Albert docks many times. Reasonable price, old waste ground like bodddingtons in Manchester but not as enclosed. It looks rough but we've never had a problem.
