FAO - BARRY_CHUCKLE & RURAL BROADBAND

Post by Overthehill » Tue Feb 07, 2017 8:30 pm

We had our broadband survey today, not great news, I am afraid.
We're not in line of the WiFi beam from Preston, so can't have the standard broadband deal.
They did a 4G test and we can receive EE broadband with 40 download and 30 upload but at a cost of £50 plus Vat but limited to 64g monthly usage.
Also the kit is over £300 to supply / install.
We can upgrade from 64g to 128g but the monthly cost doubles.
The guys did tell me they are in negotiations with EE and hope to secure a cheaper monthly tariff but didn't know when the new prices would be released.

I've just got one

However, I haven't used it as the best I can get is satellite broadband but none of the packages offer unlimited usage.

Wow, that's expensive!! It's ridiculous really, in this day and age I'm sure that the technology exists that means that there are no black spots anywhere in the country. The cynical part of me thinks it's all profiteering!

"We had our broadband survey today, not great news, I am afraid"

Thanks for sharing this Overthehill, nightmare but as said above, it's crazy in 2017 that some of us have to put up with speeds which resemble the old dial up days

Rural Kent is a 'not spot' for mobile phone reception and for broadband. We have neither. This really is like the black technological hole of Calcutta. But I quite like it this way. It's very quaint and old fashioned. We don't send emails here, we still post letters.

Cardy.... how the heck did you apply for this? I've called the number 3 times and left my details for someone to get back to me (within 48 hours apparently) still heard nothing!

Any help would be appreciated!

I live on a small country estate and enquiries were made as to when Superfast Broadband would arrive.....years was the answer....unless we paid for it.

BT quoted £70,000 for the installation and with a 50mb speed limit. VirginMedia quoted £5,000 and over 200mb speed. Worked out at only £150 per property and is fantastic! Really good news was all the ugly Sky satellite dishes have been removed.

Thanks Cardy....... I really appreciate your help but I reside in Yorkshire so don't think this will help.

I'll have a play on google and see if I can find anything this side of the hills, I may even complete your document and see what happens 8-)

Thanks again!

Thanks once again Cardy..... your link was still of no use as I reside in West Yorkshire  it did help me find the relevant application form for my area though, so fingers crossed I can get something sorted!
