Bartons Hearing
Isn't it today? Any idea when we are likely to hear anything?

Re: Bartons Hearing
I missed this at the time but how did the FA find out about his bets in the first place?
Genuine question; I can't imagine he publicly announced it and surely a betting company can't share confidential information. Was he grassed up?

I suspect they probably can if they know FA rules are being broken. They're bookies, not priests.TheFamilyCat wrote:I missed this at the time but how did the FA find out about his bets in the first place?

Not only that, they're bookies at a time when there's a good deal of disquiet about some of their activities in general (fixed odds terminals, etc.) and they're probably more deeply involved in football than ever before. Not a good look for them to be hiding the fact that a high-profile footballer has been breaking betting rules for a decade.

I hear hia legal team would battle the case anyeay leading to a delayed decision
Re: Bartons Hearing
I suspect we will have to get whatever points we need to stay up without Barton
as expect he'll get a lengthy ban. He might be back for the last 3 or 4 games.
Let's hope we 'll be safe by then.

One thing I'm certain of is that it was no coincidence that this '10 year problem' surfaced within days of Barton signing for Burnley.

I'd heard the same rumours.
Like Royboy says the timing of the news is "very convenient" when leaving one bookie backed club for another

If this is true and like Robboy says it certainly was no coincidence that just a short time after it was announced he was getting himself fit at Burnley.Cleveleys_claret wrote:He was grassed up by Rangers kit sponsor allegedly
And Dyche came out to say he would help to get Joey back up to scratch and work on his fitness levels with the clubs Science team.
After that it was viral everywhere like it had never happened before.
You can bet your bottom dollar that we wont be playing any more friendly against the Teddy Bears
And i all so think that the people sat at the top table are hypocrites as I bet they all have a sneaky snaky bet. You can bet on that one hay Joey.
Re: Bartons Hearing
According to the Burnley Express his hearing is tomorrow.

I think it is more than likely tomorrow, has i think if it had been Monday it would have been like the media circus ball this morning and the lynch mob would be out in full fettle.

"It didn't, it surfaced before we signed him."
That's incorrect, the only offence that Barton was charged with before he signed for Burnley was the one by the Scottish FA. The charge relating to the 1,260 transactions was days after he signed for us.

Re: Bartons Hearing
Re: disagreement on whether charge or signing came first. We did sign him on 2nd Jan which was AFTER the charge on 23rd December.
But, on 20th December, the club reported: "Joey Barton is set to re-sign for Burnley. The Clarets have agreed terms with the midfielder on a deal until the end of the season – subject to international clearance once the transfer window opens in January."
Burnley FC then backtracked on that one after the news of the betting charge came in.

Great news if true, big boost for the next few games at least (hopefully it can be postponed until the end of the season); I wonder if new evidence has come to light on other players/managers involved in football betting? Hmmmm

Re: Bartons Hearing
Don't think it is anything to do with new evidence - just a simple requirement to change the date. Now up to the FA to come up with a new date.

Re: Bartons Hearing
He couldn't have been charged by the FA when still registered as a Rangers player. They don't have jurisdiction - the Scottish FA do.
Once he was registered as a player in England, then the English FA could charge him.
