The last chance to experiment
As a season roles on, the less likely that a manager will experiment and SD as we know isn't really one for that, although in his first season with us as things appeared to be falling apart he did just that and plucked a couple of victories out of the hat.
So now is the time for that experiment if it is to happen and with our away record there is nothing to lose, so let's be seeing a revamped midfield SD and an attempt to gain a stronger foothold in matches with a little more possession. It's the only way we"re ever going to garner points away from home.

Ok. How would you like him to revamp the midfield in order to take control in that area against Milner, Can, lallana, firmino, coutinho?

Re: The last chance to experiment
Every game (pretty much) this year we have had more than 30-40% possession we've struggled, point in view WBA away.
Our tactics against Liverpool at home have now been largely copied and proved a 'blueprint' to beat Liverpool. ie. play narrow and hit them on the break. This is what we should do at the weekend too.
Once safe though (touch wood), I'd use any game-time remaining to prep for next year. Start peeing about before then would be a pointless risk.

Re: The last chance to experiment
When we are 100% safe yes, until then a big fat NO from me.
You did not explain in your post who the revamped midfield would be and why you think it would work, hopefully we will have amassed enough points before the last three games, then SD can mess about as much as he likes, if he wishes.

Come on Sid, you know as well as I do that getting Tarks on to the pitch against Swansea changed the game.Sidney1st wrote:He isn't our best central midfielder though.......

Based on neither Barton or Defour being available and the fact that Ward has done well in a central position before.

Re: The last chance to experiment
I think "garner" is perfectly acceptable as used in the instance above. What's the problem?
Re: The last chance to experiment
Not sure experimenting over the next few games is a necessity.
We need to field our best team and see if we can get the results that will take us over the line.
Having said that I think we may need to start with three in midfield.
Given Barton looks as if he's out whatever happens then I'd start with
Defour, Westwood, Hendrick and Brady
Barnes or Vokes and Gray up front.
Defence picks itself Heaton, Lowton, Ward, Keane and Mee.
We might need to bring on Tarkowski at some stage and if we are to experiment
then it might be with our subs. Agyei could come on for the last 20 mins or so if we're
chasing the game or need a goal.

I'm not saying it's the right team but 2 points away from home doesn't exactly say that we're doing the right thing now!Burnleyareback2 wrote:God help us....

Re: The last chance to experiment
Garner makes me think of that Burnley hating steward. He hates us, I feckin hate him.
And what's wrong with "gain"? Or even two words, like "pick up"? Either of those options would do just fine. Why dick about???

Re: The last chance to experiment
I don't agree that it's 'the last chance to experiment ' but would like to know the OP's idea as to what is the revamped midfield that he's referring to.
Re: The last chance to experiment
Assuming Barton receives a ban, is there a opportunity to appeal and prolong the period before the ban?
I don't see this as either the time, or the last chance (if we so wishe, to experiment. I hope however we leave any experimentation until pre season. It's safety and then positions / points that we want.
A couple of million quid per place shouldn't be squandered through experimentation, particularly when we don't have the personnel for it to prove beneficial this season or to tell us anything for next.

Re: The last chance to experiment
I think the only way Dyche will `experiment` away from home is if we get an absolute spanking against Liverpool. While we are losing pretty much every game by the odd goal BUT it is not adversely affecting our home results, it`ll pretty much do. I suspect that Dyche fears that too much messing with the framework/personnel away from home might rock the boat a little too much which COULD lessen the fantastic effectiveness of our home play. Who knows!? It is impossible to argue with our league position (it is brilliant) but I`ve pretty much resigned myself to no away wins until we have (hopefully) secured our Premier League status for nest season and therefore Dyche feels a little more able to `experiment`.
Of course we will never `out-football` the bigger teams but feel we need to AT LEAST play ONE winger as a true winger (not tucked in) and play to his strengths, i.e. Brady which will subsequently play to Vokes` strengths.

Re: The last chance to experiment
How can this be the last chance to experiment? I assume you mean this season so I put forward the counter argument that this isn't really our first chance to experiment which will come after we have gained sufficient points to ensure our Premier League place for next season.
In any case our true 'last chance to experiment' will be the West Ham game in 10 weeks time!

Re: The last chance to experiment
Spot on, Brady definitely needs to have his shackles taken off, that's why he is playing so poorly, he doesn't suit the way he is being utilised by Dyche.HiroshimaClaret wrote:I think the only way Dyche will `experiment` away from home is if we get an absolute spanking against Liverpool.
