Why ban her?

She says things that many of us are inclined to agree with her about.
She sells, gets clicks on her articles etc.

She's a gobsh1te, no doubt, but if you're on about that poor little lad that was photographed on the BEACH then that was stage managed for the press in order to sell papers.

She simply puts in writing what plenty of people think to varying degrees.
It sells, that's her job.

Most people are only bothered about that when its in the media and its trendy to care about it.
The rest of the time people aren't interested enough in the possibility of it still happening.

Remember all the famous people wringing their hands about the Nigerian school girls kidnaped?
They went quiet about that pretty quickly.

Possibly will, but its amusing watching people froth at the mouth about her, when she's not always wrong in a lot of what she says, it's probably how she words it that annoys people.

I'd argue there's very little 'clever' about what she does. I'm not saying she's incapable or without talent but it takes very little skill to write the articles she chooses to write. It's all inflammatory rather than precise and reactionary rather than considered. It doesn't take a vast amount of wisdom to write "I hate immigrants".

If you mean 'clever' as in clever coz she's taken the easy route and is making a lot of money (losing it now, too!) by writing those kind of articles - then fair enough - to a point, coz those kind of articles are dangerous.

1) No proof of that whatsoever.
2) It's still a dead baby very possibly fleeing persecution and poverty in the most dangerous of ways imaginable but yeah, let's get worked up about whether it was 'stage managed' or not.

Definitely meant clever for spotting a way of making money without requiring any perceivable talent rather than writing clever things

Part of the blame lies with a public who instead of just ignoring her, insist on challenging her and in doing so raising her profile further.

Edit: guess I've just become guilty of that myself. Why can't we just think someone's a dick without feeling the need to tell the world?

No he drowned because his parents decided to cough up thousands of ££'s for a spot on a crappy boat operated by shady people smugglers.

Oh sure, she (and the Daily ****) have completely taken advantage of this click bait culture we've created. People will definitely agree with what she says (although she never actually says anything resembling resolutions other than racist slogans and convenient catchy soundbites) but so much of her profile relies on people being offended by her.

(Understand this post is a little hypocritical - although I'm not offended - wouldn't want to be called a 'snowflake'. Just bored of her act. It'd be easy to ignore if the hateful, rash stuff she was saying wasn't about actual humans and life and death situations.)

Doubt it.

I don't know their circumstances, why they decided to get on the 'boat' , or even where they came from.
I forgot about the kid and his family not long after it happened, like the majority of people did once it dropped out of the media's attention.

They didn't get their better life though as it turned out.

Does the fact that they thought that was safer than staying at home mean nothing? If they had stayed home and the child had died would you still be blaming them for not spending thousands of ££'s trying to save his life? You know, like countless other now childless parents have "chosen" in Syria?

Blaming the parents, whether their child died in Syria, or trying to flee Syria, is pretty heartless.

Were they from Syria then?

People who were making the crossing were from all over the place, so I've no idea where they were from.
Like I've already said, it was forgotten about when the media directed their attention to the next story.

If they'd stayed in their country of origin we wouldn't be having this conversation and I doubt we'd be talking about the kids who've died in Syria because its pretty much never mentioned on this forum.

Probably fair to say that situation happens every single day. Little babies drowning because desperate parents have no other option but to step foot onto a crate in the middle of an ocean, with just the clothes on their backs. I'm not saying we should all be humanitarians, flying out to help, we can't do that, it's a shame - but to see people - possibly parents themselves - speak so flippantly about these people will always, always stagger me.

It's by complete coincidence that we were born in a country without war, poverty and persecution. Sometimes it's easy to forget humility and empathy.

What would you like the newspapers to do? Run the exact same story every single day? You're keen to admit newspapers are fickle so why would they repeat a narrative that's literally daily? That should be the most worrying thing - when an event is so regular it becomes normal and 'boring'.

I've got 3 kids if that makes you feel better.

We may have been born in a country without war etc, but the blame for many of the issues in the middle east can be laid at the doorstep of our country.
I'm not trying to be flippant, I'm pointing out most people aren't bothered unless the media tells them to be bothered.

There were other ways to Europe that didn't involve getting on some floating object with a high risk of dying as a result.

Like 99% of people, I'm not aware of why they made that choice, or I've forgotten about why they claimed to have made that choice.

They should run it because its actually important and proper news.
It may even result in things getting done about it.

What the media actually did was run the story for a while then switch back to another story that really didn't need to be the main headlines.

Probably someone famous shacking up with someone else.

Same with the Nigerian school girls being kidnapped.
Famous people wringing their hands about it to get their face in the media and not saying anything else about it in the media just a few short months later, see Michelle Obama as an example.

I can't believe rational, educated people genuinely, sincerely believe thousands of people would pay all of the money they have to sit on some wood for hours and hours and hours in the middle of an ocean, with no food, water or certainty of safety at the other end... all for a bit of a jolly. Imagine how big newspapers would be in Sidney's world.
They'd still be running daily stories on The Holocaust.

Nah, that's old news and is rightly consigned to the history books to learn from.

People boarding unsafe modes of transport with their kids and dying is still current I suspect.

It just suited the mainstream media to report it for a while.

You're being quite literal there. The word 'jolly' was used hyperbolically to reflect your undisputed flippant and petulant remarks about people in desperate situations. 'I don't know where they were fleeing from', 'I don't know why they were fleeing' etc. Tell you what - take a wild guess.

But hey, no worries.

People boarding unsafe modes of transport with their kids and dying is still current I suspect.

It just suited the mainstream media to report it for a while.
It is hasn't been referred to in the mainstream media for.......wait for it.......3 days.

What a lovely world we'd live in if everything that was wrong in the world was able to be reported in the main news on a daily basis.

Then again maybe people would become desensitised to it. That would be awful.

Why should I take a guess?

I don't know where they were from, I don't know what they were fleeing and I've know idea why they paid x amount of money to board a raft in Africa with their kid.

You're the one making comments about jollies, insinuating I've called it that.

You've consistently implied that, over a string of posts - this one included. You're speaking in flippant faux-rhetorical questions when really, the inferred answers are fairly clear aren't they, when we're talking about such situations

But why should you take a guess, you're right. Let's not think for ourselves. We'll just read Katie Hopkins' next column, she'll have the answers.
