Re: Bartons Hearing
Addiction or no addiction, Barton was cognisant of what he was doing, he's no fool and should face the consequences of his actions. Flintoff had an addiction to endangering life by breaking the speed limit, sadly the legal profession saw him right.
Barton warrants a significant ban, I'm sure he has the resources to get himself some counselling.

Has Barton ever said he's addicted to gambling?

What's hypocritical about it?CleggHall wrote:Burnley FC and dafabet have just offered me by email a free £5 bet on the Sunderland game - hypocrisy or what?!
Unless you're a professional footballer I suppose.

It is ridiculous on here at times isn't it boatshed. People have somehow surmised that from Joey Barton putting bets on something that he shouldn't that he as an addiction that requires therapy.boatshed bill wrote:Has Barton ever said he's addicted to gambling?
It seems the FA have to prove here that Barton knows he was doing wrong.
Allegedly he wasn't actually breaking any rules up until a couple of years ago. Under the new rules he would have been have been breaking the rules as long ago as 2006, but how can you break a rule that doesn't exist? I would say the FA panel will have to find in Barton's favour up to the new rules being put in place and then guilty thereafter. Lets be clear though he is being done for a betting irregularity not match fixing.

I played for an u-15 team in an Accy league, 1968/69. The team's end of season medals - I got top scorer - were distributed by one of the banned Sheff Wed players.CleggHall wrote:Was this the Sheffield Wednesday one involving Swan, Bronco Layne and Kay?

Agree, there's something not quite right about all the sponsorship (betting and alcohol) of activities that are "out of order" for the key participants in the sport. Mixed messages.boatshed bill wrote:Hypocrites! Football is awash with betting advertising, bookies as sponsors etc.

Rules did exist pre-2014, he was charged under the old and new rules and admitted those charges.RocketLawnChair wrote:It is ridiculous on here at times isn't it boatshed. This hearing will be to sort out how heavily he gets punished, not whether it happens at all.
