'The Replacement'...BBC1...9.00pm tonight

Post by hampsteadclaret » Tue Mar 14, 2017 8:37 pm

I don't watch large amounts of TV but I do like a good piece of modern drama.

'The Replacement' has been one of the best things on this year so far imo.

It comes in three one-hour programmes, with the third and final part on in twenty minutes....[parts one and two are on BBC i-player]

It will be up there when the awards are given out..well worth a view.

I've enjoyed the first two. Perhaps going a tad OTT in the second (and the third by the looks of it) but very good all the same. Almost a cross between the hand that rocks the cradle and fatal attraction.

Isn't the 'other woman' the one from This is England?

I've enjoyed it too, but it does seem a bit contrived to me at times. Too much falling
too easily into place, if you'll forgive the pun !

Yes it has been very good.

One of the best crime dramas I've seen on tele is on towards the end of this month - Line of Duty. Those who are into this type of stuff should find a way of watching the first two series - hope the third is as good.

Another one here for Line of Duty, excellent drama. Highly recommended.

I understand that Happy Valley is not too far away either - now that was excellent.

6..that is not accurate about Happy Valley I'm afraid.

There will be a third series, but no filming has taken place at all yet.

If that's true, then it has ruined my night, but thanks for the info.

So many good British dramas are ruined by really crap endings.

I hate wasting my time watching a good drama, only to be let down by a crap ending.

They spent too much time on the woman trapped in the car,who off her t!ts after taking on overdose, somehow managed to hotwire an airbag and then drive to the library. The writers simply got the pacing of the end badly wrong and appeared to have rushed the ending. Far too many things were left to chance

It spoiled what was a decent mini series

The most gripping drama on TV so far this year. Pity the ending didn't live up to what went before

Never watched this show but agree with how many series have really poor endings.
I always feel they've set them up for a follow up but, as with Fortitude, I don't bother.

No way in a million years could you set off an airbag with a torch battery. Also, how did she hot wire the car when the battery was disconnected?

I'm no expert, but I didn't think you could hotwire an airbag. Anyway, having achieved that seemingly
impossible task, she must have climbed out of the front windscreen that had been smashed by the
unlikely airbag explosion, re-attached the lead to the battery, climbed back in and started the car
by hot wiring it with the wires she had ripped out earlier.

All in a days work for an architect ! !

Don't know what your problem is.

Also, why didn't she kick out the side windows - non laminated and smash much more easily than a windscreen. I have one of those flimsy metal cabinets, that was propped up against the car, in my garage - if you look at the wrong way it falls over. Instead she dismantles the passenger side dashboard to get to the electrics - to hotwire the airbag - since when does an airbag going off smash the windscreen?? I hate inaccuracies in films and programs - I drive the wife mad. I also hate it when a punter goes into the Rovers Return / Woolpack / The Vic - orders a pint, takes a sip, then remembers they have to be somewhere and leaves the whole f*****ing lot on the bar...... who would do that????

Really enjoyed the first two episodes but found myself shouting at the telly as last night's got more unbelievable.

Worst ending I've seen for a long time after being so good for 90% of the series ..

was ok at best, for me. yet another, typical BBC, girlie, emotional drama. they just can't help themselves. agree with others about the crappy, 'unlikely' finale.
