Ashley barnes

Post by Terrier » Wed Mar 15, 2017 4:38 pm

No doubt this has been asked and answered but why no follow up after a call up for the austrian u20 in 2008, i'm not really into the international scene but are the senior strikers that good to keep him out now he seems to hold his own in the prem?

Or maybe could he still represent England?

Maybe the Austrian manager/coach doesn't want a player making fouls constantly and running the risk of a red card from the 1st minute

Was wondering that too.

Can't remember much about Austria from the Euros other than they came into the tournament with a big reputation which they failed to live up to and struggled for goals.

They've got a striker call Marc Janko who's got 28 international goals but he's 33 and plays for Basel. Of their other strikers in the current squad one has scored twice, the rest have never scored.

Would be a surprise given those stats if, assuming he'd make himself available for selection, Austria aren't monitoring his performances for us this season.

Because they always play with one striker up top and they already have a world class one basically. BTW hes 6 ft 5 if that gives you an idea of how they play.

Let's get this right. Ashley is nowhere near good enough to be an international striker. He's a burnley player and when in the claret and blue I cheer him on. But please let's not kid ourselves that he is anything other than mediocre. We play a system which suits him but first chance we get to upgrade we will

Even if you hold the view that he's a 'mediocre' PL and/or Burnley player - that doesn't mean he can't be considered a possible international striker - how different is he to Sam Vokes who scored in the quarter finals of the Euros.

Ash has been consistently one of our stars. Why fans have it in for him is beyond me
He scored against the Scallies and nearly had a second. The defenders grab him and attempt to foul him at every opportunity and yet he still manages to battle through. He is getting better in every game.

He's scored against Spurs, City and Liverpool and our own fans think he couldn't score against Malta, Gibraltar or Liechtenstein?

He's our most skillful player by a mile! some of his chest down and passes are fantastic.
i think he would be even better with good players around him.

Am I the only one who was genuinely shocked by the abuse that Barton got on here by some after the Lincoln game and the abuse Barnes received after his 'stoppage time' red which had no bearing on the eventual scoreline?

Barton was a free and I'm not sure how much Barnsy cost but it was hardly of Pogba proportions.

If you require flawless players at a club that only buys the very best then Burnley isn't really for you.

Ash is not international level, he's a player that plays to his strengths which is harassing defenders and he is very good at it.
Unfortunately he is always going to be on the edge of being sent off, leads with his elbows I have said this in previous posts and one week later he gets sent off. Refs know all about him and are now watching his every move.
He's player we need this season and he's doing a good job of keeping their defenders on their toe's. Premier players don't like being harassed and Ash does exactly that.

Not sure how anyone can see 'he is not international level'?

Chris Martin?
Kyle Lafferty?
Jamie Ward?

All full internationals, and Ashley Barnes is more than one cut above all three.

Ashley is another joey barton you love him if he plays for you and hate him if he doesn't, but as mentioned above always worried he's going to get sent off.

In comparison to whom is Ashley Barnes mediocre? I'm interested to know how you measure mediocrity. Is this mediocrity measured against former Burnley strikers, or current Premier League strikers, or strikers being paid £100,000 per week at a top six club.
As you may pick up from my tone I am an Ashley fan. I love his edge, his aggression, his desire, and his talent, albeit limited from your point of view. Upgrade? This is Burnley.

Ashley Barnes is without doubt the best all round striker at the club.

Puts 100% in every game and never gives up.

I think he was mediocre that time he bullied City's central defenders last time we were in the PL, Mangela and the other lad.

he is not a top 10 PL team player and he is not a top 10 International team player.

He plays for the Clarets and can definitely play for a few international teams I have seen, horses for courses. Arfield good example, could not get in the Scotland team but got in the Canadian team.
