Pep Guardiola

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Wed Mar 15, 2017 9:37 pm

Has there ever been a more overrated manager?

Takes Riijkards Barcelona to glory with the best players of all time.
Takes a great Bayern side in a very heavily one sided league to nothing but expected league titles.
Takes city out in the quarters.

My dog could achieve that and hes dead.

You can't judge him fairly until he's spent circa £200 million.

Until then, leave him alone.

Aside from the fact that he actually developed the core of Barca's team through their youth team and ultimately turned them into perhaps the best club side of all time.

Whether his style and philosophy will ultimately work in the premier league remains to be seen but he needs the right players for his system, much as we do for ours.

Luckiest man alive.
Ronnie Whelan has just summed it up perfectly on RTE.
Makes football far too complicated for his players.

Any manager worth his salt couldve achieved what he did with Barca. Anyone.

Rijkaard's Barca were a complete shambles by the end of his tenure. To say he just inherited the perfect side and told them to play is very unfair.

Guardiola will go down in history as the architect and coach of possibly the greatest club side there's ever been.

His record at City so far is certainly up for debate, though.

Did Rijkaard? Without looking he was a big failure wasn't he?

Discussion on 5live tonight, as I was driving Home, was that in the first half Man City should have changed play to put some longer balls forward. That would have disrupted the successful pressing. However, it was made clear that only Mr G can make that change, not an intelligent player!

Example given: Thierry Henry playing for Barca is told to stay out wide. He sees opportunity, cuts in and scores. Outcome: Subbed at H/T for disobeying manager!
Sounds like he is unable to place flexibility in the hands of his players. That can o my produce his downfall.
