Re: Andre Gray
Lithiania arent great. Their manager is one of their best ever players though. Jankauskas. He won the champions league at Porto under Mourinho. He ended up at Hearts with a load of other Lithuanians when Romanov took charge.
Re: Andre Gray
Excellent header of the ball, skilful, good football brain, sharp in front of goal, loyally local and passionate Claret.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Gray is yes. But when he goes we should improve on him. Jay isnt an improvement in my opinion, certainly as a goalscorer.
He's in my team!

Re: Andre Gray
Would rather have Austin then Rodriguez. Rodriguez's injury ruined him.

Whereas Austin has never been affected by injury.KefkaClaret wrote:Would rather have Austin then Rodriguez. Rodriguez's injury ruined him.

Did you actually read what I said? I said Rodriguez's injury ruined him as he has scored 8 goals in 38 appearances in the last 3 seasons meanwhile Austin has 20 in 40 appearances on just the last two seasons. Austin is still a good player, Rodriguez is limited now.
Re: Andre Gray
Rodriguez does not appear to be limited when he plays for Saints. He is just not foreign!

Fiercely loyal? He left to the first club that came in for him.IanMcL wrote:Excellent header of the ball, skilful, good football brain, sharp in front of goal, loyally local and passionate Claret.

Was a good player for is and is a very decent lad. But lets not kid ourselves that Burnley is more important to him than his career. He couldn't have moved further away.
Funny thing is, if we stay up we would be perfect for him but he wont be perfect for us. We need to look to the future.
Before his injury he was destined for very good things. Unfortunately we cant have sentiment. Or we would still have Chris McCann!
If we lose Gray we need to replace him with someone who scores at least as many goals as he does.

Re: Andre Gray
Sadly Gray is not as good as Austin, Jay or Ings.
That's not a bad thing, but Gray least suits our style the of all 4 strikers, so would have any of them ahead of him at the moment.
We will see just how much Gray wants to be here over the next 6 months.
If he stays, great.
If he doesn't not bothered.

Re: Andre Gray
The only other forward we can match his pace and goals is Vardy.Andre suffers when he had to shake off the illegal attentions of defenders before scoring due to passes he gets.
Play the ball on the ground for him to sprint onto and he will score. As witnessed by hattrick v Sunderland.
He will be mom tomorrow.

Based on what? He's got a far better goals to games ratio than Jay-Rod had.

Based on skill, finishing, price tag, time in top flight, goals in the top flight, international recognition, wages or which ever top flight stat you wish to use.
Re: Andre Gray
You can only do a like for like comparison in the top flight with a similar number of games. Looking at Wiki, in his 1st season Jay-Rod scored 6 goals in 35 appearances for Southampton. Gray has got 8 in far less games.MACCA wrote:Based on skill, finishing, price tag, time in top flight, goals in the top flight, international recognition, wages or which ever top flight stat you wish to use.
And since when have wages been a good indicator on how good a player is? Wayne Rooney is one of the world's highest paid players yet he's a long way behind the best strikers.
Re: Andre Gray
Jay was younger. Probably less minutes, probably didn't take pens, probably wasn't main forward.
I'm only guessing I don't know.
But I'd say 90%+ of managers and fans would have had a fit firing Jay over Andre every day of the week.
He was immense before that injury at City and possibly England squad bound ( when it was an acheivment to get called up )

Re: Andre Gray
But he isnt now. And hasnt been since that City game. And even then Andres Stats outweight Jays.
Jay was 23. Andre is 25. Hardly much between them.
Andre is a consistent goalscorer. Jay isnt and never has been.
If we replace Andre with Jay (which we wont) then we will massively struggle.
