Hate to "welcome" a MU goal but pragmatism rules. Reading live text Boro's defending is woeful. Ben Gibson = £50m. :)

United need a second, we can then breathe a bit better as I can see Boro scabbing one.

From BBC Sports text commentary. WEC's notoriety is spreading...

"Middlesbrough 0-1 Manchester United
Posted at 42 mins
Marcus Rashford is giving Bernardo a torrid time with his pace. Lingard finds the striker in the box and tears past his marker but can't quite poke the ball back to a team-mate. Bernardo is getting an insight into how terrible it is to be Wile E. Coyote."

Really don't understand how Boro are where they are when you look at some their team today and what they have on the bench. I think the problem is they aren't a team and Karanka has to take some of the blame for that with his remarks after their losses. They could still stay up if someone has the ability to get them to gel as a team.

36 points will be enough this season to stay up, the bottom three need to win around 5 out of the last 9 games we 2 wins or 1 win and 2 draws

Think if they play like they did in the second half today they will beat us...that's 25, they are certainly not the worst team in the division

from BBC website:

Boro are now winless in 11 league games since Christmas, failing to score in seven of them.
They equal the longest run without victory in the Premier League this season, set by Swansea.
This defeat was their 1000th in the top flight.
Their tallies of four wins and 20 goals scored this season are the worst in the division.
They have failed to score in 13 of their 28 matches, more than any other side.

after playing Hull, Swansea and us Boro have a horrendous run in. I still think we need another 6 points to be sure though

They bought better players in the summer than we did though.

None of Boro, Sunderland or Hull will catch us.

We're perfectly safe. Stop mithering.

Really don't think we need to worry about either Sunderland or Boro.
One more win a couple of draws will leave Hull with a huge ask to catch us, though they've a few very winnable games coming up.
They'd likely also need to turn around a 21 goal deficit too.

Looking at that I don't see them getting more than 9 points at best (and that's giving them the benefit if the doubt)

Math stats at Boro:

Middlesbrough - 64% possession

Man Utd - 36% possession

United got away with one there, they sat miles too deep and didn't press in midfield allowing Downing and Traore to find their 2 lummoxes up top.

Fellaini was woeful, thought Boro kept the ball well and it's ironic that they looked a threat when playing the long ball.

Great result !

Looking at the bottom 3 and average points per game and if it were to stay that way until end of the season.

Sunderland 20 pts from 28 games (0.71 pts per game) so 10 games left (7 pts) Total 27 pts

Boro 22 pts from 28 games (0.79 pts per game) so 10 games left (8 pts) Total 30 pts

Hull 24 from 29 games (0.82 pts per game) so 9 games left (7 pts) Total 31 pts

So being ever the optimist we could be safe already :)

I'll stick with a maximum of 9 points at best. I don't think they'll get much from Swansea or Hull away, I can see them beating us and Arsenal (they can't defend high balls) and probably Sunderland, they "should" lose the rest
