Joey Barton

Post by Devils_Advocate » Sun Mar 19, 2017 1:25 pm

As usual I suspect most will disagree with me especially about our golden boy but after a couple of brilliant games when he first came back to us Joey is starting to look off the pace and out of his depth in the Premier league.

Haven't seen enough of Westwood to make a decision but i hope for £5m we have a someone capable of better performances that we are seeing from Barton at the moment.

That said on yesterdays showing he was still the best of a bad bunch when it came to the two centre midfielders

I thought Joey was nonexistent during the second half tbh (albeit from watching via stream)

At around 70mins I even questioned my mate asking if he'd been substituted

The early yellow played a big part. It quietened him and also meant that Hendrick had to stay on. That said the yellow had to be taken in the circumstances.

Nope not one quiet game. Think he has been poor since the Watford game and not turning on him just voicing an opinion that I think he's struggling.

If you disagree fair enough but dont just twist my words to suit your response

Referring to him as Golden boy,I take it he's not your favourite Claret though ;)

By definition a bunch is a group of people and a group is a set of two or more people so I think you are incorrect

I really like Barton and the reference to golden boy was more about other peoples perception as certain players are not to be criticised and he seems to me to be one of them

As much as I like him I feel he is struggling and hope that Westwood might be able to offer us more

I'd like more focus on what constitutes a 'bunch'. If it's a group of people then I've been eating some weird fruit.

yesterday was a two man midfield against a three. Its always going to be difficult in those circumstances.
We also played a lot of long balls yesterday.

I agree with the OP.
Before Barton signed, there were many posters on here who said (if not in these precise words) that he would add steel and determination to the side; that he would help turn potential defeats into draws, and draws into victories. He was going to be an inspirational leader, who would lead by peerless example.
Well - not too much of that in the games against Lincoln, Hull, Swansea, Liverpool or Sunderland.
IMHO, of course.

Hi D_A, I guess we all want several players to be match winners in most games. I don't think it works like that. Some games player X or Y will be an absolute star, other games the same players may have little impact. Lots of factors why this may be and a slight "niggling" injury is often one of them.

It's great to Joey Barton back at Burnley. He's already played more games than we could have expected given the betting thing. And, in that period we've ben without several other mid-fielders. However Joey is playing match to match we are better off than we were 2 seasons back when Marney was injured and we had no CMs to step up.

Sean Dyche sees all the players in training and Sean and his coaching staff have got all they need from the match stats and everything else that matters in selecting the team.

We've not seen enough of Ashley Westwood up to now. I'm sure he will prove a valuable Burnley player, but, like Hendrick and JBG earlier in the season, it is to be expected that he will need time to find his place in the team and the framework etc. etc.

The early yellow card prevented joey from doing what he usually does. Any other challenge and he'd have walked, because he's joey barton

Joey has been good since his return. Miles better than Westwood.

I'd like to see Defour in asap though.

I know that. It wasn't a criticism against Joey but seeing as we only used 2 subs I'm puzzled to why he wasn't subbed for Defour, Westwood or everyone's favourite utility man Tarky

Joey held things together in midfield when things started to get hairy as Sunderland pressed. We need his energy next season and definatley got sold a pup if we paid £5m for Westwood. Ashley looked lost when he played v Swansea.

Forget the game but when Barton and Defour played together they were both superb, really seemed to understand each other.

I'd like to see him in the middle with Hendrick and Defour playing again. One quiet game isn't bad at all though.

Personally, I thought he had a decent touch but only ever passed it sideways from what I remember.

Too often we got into good positions and didn't have the skill/cajunas/ideas for the killer pass forwards. Joey wasn't poor, but he wasn't a match winner either, which is what our midfield cried out for.
