Why we will stay up

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sun Mar 19, 2017 1:32 am

Progression by decade says so
:D
10 years after the orient game we were midtable third tier
10 years after that midtable second tier
10 years after that midtable top flight??? Talk about consistent progression.

10 years before it midtable second tier
10 years before that midtable top flight
10 years before that about to become champions of england. Talk about consistent regression :o

Today would have sealed it for me. Now we have 9 cup semi and cup finals to get the two wins we need.

Maybe less than that 1 win 1 draw 36pts could scrape with goal difference. Will be interesting to see what the point level required this season will be less than the benchmark 40 I think.

Yeah I definitely think it'll be less than 40. I still reckon 35 will do it, but 4 more points puts us on 36 which I reckon will be enough. The trouble is, I'm not sure we'll get another win, so it might have to be 3-4 more draws.

Doesn't matter how there come as long as there do I think we are good for another 6pts at the max including a win in there.

Id like to think 2 from 9 is achievable. Particularly as weve played the top 5 twice bar spurs. But with palace desperate they wont be easy. West brom and wedt ham are always tough. As will stoke be and man u to come we could need away wins after all.

Thats what makes today even more frustrating. We wpuld be all but there.

Get defour and Brady in and we should do it.

West Brom are on the beach or so I thought after the last 2 TP must have got them geared up today well technically now yesterday it's doable, palace could be tricky likely draw IMO West Ham & stoke nothing to really play for its all in our hands.

Today was never going to be easy Sunderland are fighting I had it down as a draw on accumulators even with the 3 today it wouldn't be signed & sealed yes easier no easy game in this league. Plenty of time to accrue points & a good cushion.

40 points is the benchmark simply because it's a round number. I don't know how many times it's actually been the requirement since the top division was reduced to 20 teams but I'll bet it's not very many.

I'll take an 8 point cushion and an easier run-in than most of the teams in trouble. We've been beating teams like WBA,WHU and Stoke at home all season, and I still think we'll get an away win somewhere.

The average points total of the team finishing in 17th place over the last twenty years is 38.4

What's the average points for 18th place in the last 20 years? Don't you just get that figure and add one point to it to see what usually guarantees safety?

I'd posted this elsewhere:

In the last 10 seasons the team relegated finishing 3rd from bottom got the following:

15/16 - 37
14/15 - 35
13/14 - 33
12/13 - 36
11/12 - 36
10/11 - 39 (Blackpool)
09/10 - 30 (Us)
08/09 - 34
07/08 - 36
06/07 - 38

We can review this after Boro result today. Karanka gone will there be an improvement in their form?
Leicester, Hull Palace, Swansea have all had an upturn with change of manager.

Want as many points as we can - want as many battling performances as we can - either way that is the momentum we need for next season - it will be very hard to stay up on our resources next season - with the improvements shown by Swansea, Palace, Leicester, Bournemouth - add Newcastle and we will be amongst the 3 favourites to go down.

As we evolve from the championship players that have got us to where we are now we need to maintain the heart and fight that got us here

the higher we stay up the league the more money we get = more money to improve the team. I want over 40 points :)

I'm certainly not sure that we'll win another game, but since we've won 5 of the last 6 at home, and 5 home games left, I'm optimistic. Effie Trinket is right - the odds are ever in our favour!

Likewise, I can't understand the panic that we won't win another game at home this season!

We've got three mid table teams to play at home - Stoke, West Brom & West Ham.

So far we've beaten every mid table side at home that we've played.

I'm picking the Palace game as the one after which we will be mathematically certain of playing Premier League again next season.

Not just going off Burnley adding points, but also the points dropped by the teams (at least 3) below us.

Magic numbers show the "north east relegation 3" numbers as 19, 20 and 21. So, if Burnley win next 3 and they each lose next three then we will be mathematically certain after three games. Crystal Palace is 6 games ahead, so no problem.

I won't be worried if it takes a game more. I'm looking forward to Bournemouth away - and we can all celebrate on the beach. :D ;)

Dare to Dream.
