Moronic myths
We set up just to get a point away from home.
Defour has played his last game for us.
Dyche didn't realise Ben Mee was a centre back.
Any more?

Well he certainly didn't play Mee as centre-back for well over two seasons after it was obvious he was capable there. In fact he was capable of doing so during EH's time.

Re: Moronic myths
I guess we'll never know whether Dyche ever rated Mee at centre back before he tried him there.
All I know is that whenever I saw Mee at left back he looked bloody awful and totally out of his depth against anybody who had the slightest bit of skill. So for me it was either centre back or the transfer list.

Re: Moronic myths
That King Arthur existed
That Karanka was talented
That Boyd is useless
That we'll stop chasing Lansbury.
That we are improving at crosses and set pieces.
That it'll be easy now to stay up.

If I was setting up to get a point, I wouldn't have two forwards on the pitch considering the match starts at 0-0.

Re: Moronic myths
Yeah I wouldn't say he sets up for a point. What I would say is that he settles for a point too early if we're still drawing.
Re: Moronic myths
Remind me which matches you have in mind? Remember Mee was picked ahead of Ward for most of the Premier League season - Mee was about Ward's standard, though Dyche evidently put him a little ahead - do you think the same comments apply to Ward?FactualFrank wrote:I guess we'll never know whether Dyche ever rated Mee at centre back before he tried him there.

Jason Shackell was incredibly unpopular in the dressing room is my favourite Burnley myth.
Followed up by Owen Coyle lost the Burnley dressing room.

Re: Moronic myths
I don't need to do. Pretty much every Burnley fan knows he wasn't good enough at left back and once moved inside (in the Championship - just prior to our 23 unbeaten run) he was absolutely superb.dsr wrote:Remind me which matches you have in mind? As good as Ward? What the... Mee couldn't get past the half way line when he played left back! And if he ever did he looked like a deer stuck in headlights. Could never threaten the opposition's rightback if they'd have played until midnight.
Nowhere near as good as Ward at left back, but he's a new player since moving to centre back.

Re: Moronic myths
I'll stick with Dyche's assessment of Mee as a left back, thanks. He played about 30 games as a Premier League left back, with Ward available for more than half of them. There are better left backs, but Mee wasn't the disaster you remember.

Re: Moronic myths
We'll agree to disagree. I prefer to make a change - go 23 games on the bounce without defeat - and then make the change permanent, as opposed to still think the previous option was better.dsr wrote:I'll stick with Dyche's assessment of Mee as a left back, thanks. Re: Moronic myths
He was too hesitant before, initially did everything right , then far too indesicisve for his and the teams good. It looked like he was happier making snap decisions . Once he had a bit of space to operate, it could go either way.

Re: Moronic myths
We didn't move Mee into the centre because he was crap at left back (which he never was).
We moved Mee because Duff had run his race with us and was the weak link.
We had a perfectly good replacement to go in at left back.

Re: Moronic myths
We should get some of those Dyche Out banners printed up.
Hopefully the players will be reading this and they can do a Leicester and get him out.
Get a bloody grip!!!!

Re: Moronic myths
Again, happy to disagree. I thought he was 'ok' at Championship level, but never impressed me. I definitely think Dyche realised/learned a lot when the defence was changed prior to that 23 game run. It was the change a lot of us wanted.Bin Ont Turf wrote:We didn't move Mee into the centre because he was crap at left back (which he never was).

Re: Moronic myths
I doubt that there's a Burnley fan on the planet that would prefer Mee to Ward in at left back.
But Mee wasn't as bad there as you suggest FactualFrank. Yes I know that he didn't do a lot going forward.
Lowton is better for Keane being next to him. Keane is better for Mee being next to him. Mee is better for Ward being next to him.

Re: Moronic myths
I agree - we have a balanced defence. To be honest, defence is the last thing we should be discussing really. It's the midfield that lets us down. If we stay up and we keep Heaton, our defence and attack, all we need to do is improve the midfield and we'll improve significantly.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Lowton is better for Keane being next to him. Re: Moronic myths
We'll have to improve in all departments if we're to keep playing in this division for any length of time. It'll be a slow process though.
And the longer we spend in this division the more we'll see our better players going to other teams.
We can be the next Stoke though, with a bit of luck.

Re: Moronic myths
Owen Coyle was God.
Danny Ings heart wasn't in it once he was going to run his contract down.
Dyche can only play 442
We have a dry powder room.

Re: Moronic myths
There isn't much of a problem in setting up to get a draw in most of our away games..ie. don't lose. [breakaway winning goals are a bonus].
If you then win most of your home games, as we have been doing, you will qualify for the Champions League.

The only way to transport 6500 fans for a local derby is by a bus convoy.
