Kane to replace Rooney as England captain
Obviously not a job that requires any intelligence whatsoever.

Re: Kane to replace Rooney as England captain
Kane's injured isn't he?
Or do you mean permanently?
That would be a terrible decision if true.

And Damo, can you just crawl back into Imploding Turtle's shell and stay there.
Re: Kane to replace Rooney as England captain
I'd give it to Joe hart. Clearly the most established senior player and unchallenged as England's no1. Will always be a starter.

Re: Kane to replace Rooney as England captain
Cant see any other options.
Maybe Henderson as Liverpool captain. Maybe Smalling.
Stones needs to focus on his own game for a few seasons yet.
Full backs arent guaranteed a game yet.
None of the midfield is.
Not many natural leaders in there.
Kane when fit is the first name on the sheet and along with Alli one of our few consistent top players.
Personally would keep it with Rooney until after Russia.

Henderson or Cahill for me. Although not sure Cahill has long left at international level.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Chelsea bring in two centre halves in the summer.colne-claret wrote:Despite being a key player in Chelsea's team this year which will go on to win the title.

Maybe but you can't fault any of their three centre halves this season. They have been sublime.DCWat wrote:Wouldn't be at all surprised if Chelsea bring in two centre halves in the summer.

Playing in a 3. The last few times I've seen him in a 4, both Chelsea and England, he's had some nightmares.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Cahill has been immense this season.

Re: Kane to replace Rooney as England captain
I'm all for Kane as captain. He's the most suitable option. Captains his club, will be around for years and is (or should be) a guaranteed starter. He's underrated I reckon. Scores all sorts of goals.

Nearest thing we have had to Shearer.

He could very likely be the one to most seriously challenge Shearer's PL goals record.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Nearest thing we have had to Shearer.

Should be done on a game by game basis, Beckham made the England captaincy a money making circus.

Keane (capt) and Stones in central defence, a pairing that could do England proud for 6 or more years!ashtonlongsider wrote:Problem being CT there aren't too many alternatives.

Re: Kane to replace Rooney as England captain
Yeah. Cos ALL Chelsea players are better than everyone else in their given positions.colne-claret wrote:Despite being a key player in Chelsea's team this year which will go on to win the title.

CT has a point, Cahill (for me) hasn't been anywhere near as good as his early development and form suggested he was going to be. Better when alongside a top quality CH, like (and I hate to say this, 'cos he's an arse) John Terry. He's just not all that.
Not a leader i'm afraid. Then again, Kane is anything but.

I dont believe we have ANY players that are captain material once Rooney goes.
However think Dele Alli could make a good future captain

Really? He has a LOT of growing up to do.BFC88 wrote:I dont believe we have ANY players that are captain material once Rooney goes.

There are few captains around anymore but Kane is definitely not one of them. Saying he would be a good captain because he will be around for a long time, seriously?
What about picking someone who's a leader for once?

Cahill will be captain, surely. Thanks again to John McGreal for teaching him all he needed to know.

Re: Kane to replace Rooney as England captain
This 'leader' thing is a bit puzzling. The English more than most seem to mythologise the captaincy. What do we want? A roaring, hand clapping, chest beating maniac with the flag of St George shaved above his temple? Off the top of my head, Phillip Lahm is an immensely successful captain and he's about as opposite to that as possible.Claretmatt4 wrote:Really? He has a LOT of growing up to do.

Italy, France, Germany, Spain etc seem to take a much more laid back response to the captaincy and it's hardly done them any harm. Their captain is often simply the person with the most caps - regardless of character. Really it's just a media thing more than anything else. And coin flipping duties.
Saying that though - I'd go for Kane. Captains his club, very good with the media and yes - the fact he's almost certain to be around for a while is a significant factor.
