Michael Keane
How much do you think we will realistically receive for him in the summer. I was thinking anywhere between 15 and 20 million.

I would hope a MINIMUM of 25 million, he still has a year left so there is no reason to accept less. I would expect at least 5 clubs to be in for him

Just search 'Keane' and 'million' in the top right corner and you will get the 100 or so guesses at this question already made over the last 6months.
No need to add more.

Re: Michael Keane
Why is everybody so keen (sorry about the pun) to get rid of him? Like I said before, no pile of money has ever scored a goal (or prevented one, as in his case). He goes, and we go down. Simple as that.

Re: Michael Keane
All depends who comes after him. Top 6 and you could have an auction, although he'll have final say, that could get to silly money. Next 4 and £25m at most, even with a cap.
Any less we should keep him and let him walk after next season.

Re: Michael Keane
I'd rather sell Keane, get up to £25 million, than let him walk away for free a season later. We have a very good replacement already lined up who only cost £3 million. I'd rather bank the money and use it to buy other players.

Re: Michael Keane
I'd rather we sell him so Tarks has to play CB, I'm curious to see who abc would want to play in midfield instead.
Re: Michael Keane
It depends if he has a get out clause in his contract like Tripps had.

Re: Michael Keane
In real terms has to be upward of 30 million - compare/contrast to other PL CB brought in from elsewhere, and then there's the case of John Stones. Anything less than 30 and we're doing something wrong.

There's no chance we are getting £30m for Keane. Ideally £25m and at minimum £20m.

Re: Michael Keane
Think he will end up at Man U, Suspect he still has a soft spot for them. Must be said we have done well to keep Tarks-he has had to be in the shadows for well over a year now and other than injuries not likely to play much more this season
If Swansea go down we should go for Mawson. We need three top centre halves-got off lightly this year (touch wood) with BM and MK who have I believe started each game
As regards fee we should be looking for £22-£25m

Re: Michael Keane
Arsenal already have lots of centre-halves so he won't go there.
Spurs have a great defence so he isn't needed there.
He won't go Liverpool, United through and through.
Chelsea already have enough young centre-halves in Zouma and Ake.
I think United will look for someone more high profile.
I think he'll end up at Everton to be honest but I would like him to get into a top 6 team.

We can ask whatever we wish and it seems initial amounts bandied around
by the media have been between 15 -25m.
I think we'd be mad to accept less than 20m but ask for 25m
We may have to settle for less but we may get offered more especially
if there's more than Everton interested.
I think much may also depend on Keane and where he wants to go but then
we'll just have to say we'll have to accept the highest bid and then he can turn it down if he
doesn't fancy it.

Re: Michael Keane
United have a rather large sell on fee (from memory it's 20%) so he won't be going for only 20 million
Re: Michael Keane
The comparison with John Stones is hilarious tbh, Danny Murphy raised a great point about how football fans in general overlook players playing in different systems when comparing.
Stones is hung out to dry at City with no protection would Keane do any better? Non of us can say.
We are a defensive team obviously a defenders job is easier in a defensive team with minimum 7 team mates around to help out. City attack attack leaving defenders exposed constantly.
The point I'm making is us and City play two different styles both suiting defenders differently so it's nonsense comparing the two players.
Team A attacks with 9 players and leaves 1 back to defend every game. Team B defends with 9 players and leaves 1 forward every game. Obviously Team Bs defence will look better compared to Team As.

Keane is a better centre half than Stones.
Ironically they would make a formidable partnership, perhaps when they both have more experience.

Keanes a better centre half because he plays for Burnley? I don't see many centre halves doing much better at the back for City than Stones. He's hung out to dry Pep said it himself.Claretmatt4 wrote:Stones is a better footballer than Keane.

Re: Michael Keane
No. He's a better centre half because of all the qualities he brings that are relevant to the role.KRBFC wrote:Keanes a better centre half because he plays for Burnley? I don't see many centre halves doing much better at the back for City than Stones. He's hung out to dry Pep said it himself.
Heading.
Marking.
Strength.
Anticipation.
Tackling.
Bravery.
Positioning.
Keane is better than Stones at the above. From watching both of them.
But Stones is quicker, better ball control. Better short medium and long range passing. He's got better vision on the ball and is more confident with the ball at his feet.
So in traditional terms, Keane ticks all the boxes (and he's decent at a lot of the above too). But the modern defender preferred by Pep needs to be better at the latter. He doesn't even train tacking doesn't he, or is that a myth?
Ben Mee is probably better than Stones at a few of the top ones!
Re: Michael Keane
I have no idea what Pep trains, it does sound weird that players would intentionally practice just tackling though. Tackling will be unintentionally practiced while playing football games in training though i'd have thought.Claretmatt4 wrote:No. He's a better centre half because of all the qualities he brings that are relevant to the role.

Re: Michael Keane
Keane has a soft spot for ManU? Why would he after they loaned him out? And did you see his reaction after getting the tying goal against Hull. He immediately sought out the Burnley supporters. He's a very quiet lad, but he's also a quiet leader. They're the best kind.
Re: Michael Keane
He's a United fan. It was also his decision to join Burnley. Fair bet that he'd rather play for them than one of their rivals.ontario claret wrote:Keane has a soft spot for ManU? Re: Michael Keane
I think the point about Pep and tacking is that to be on a training pitch with his squad, he'd expect them to have mastered a base skill of a defender by that point. In Stones's case, especially after huge transfer fee.

Come on Ontario surely you know better than anyone that once you've chosen your team they're "your team".
Without a shadow of a doubt if mourinho came in for Keane he wouldn't think twice about signing for them and you can't really blame him.

Re: Michael Keane
Wayne Rooney's team while he was growing up was Everton. I don't think he feels the same way about them now. All I know is that Keane has shown a real affection towards both our club and our fans. I think that's the difference between being a player and being a supporter.

Re: Michael Keane
Oh, I don't know. But some people do change over time. I was brought up a Toronto Maple Leaf fan. I once bawled my eyes out when they conceded a tying goal with one second left in the game. But I got over it and moved on. Maybe Keane is one of those exceedingly rare individuals who has the ability to think for themselves. We'll just have to wait and see.
Re: Michael Keane
You'll be lowballed at offers around 15m and eventually settle for about the same as we got for Phil Jones, around 18m on deadline day.
You never get 30m for any of your players as you can't get them to commit to long enough contracts.

Re: Michael Keane
How much did you get for him ? Oh, that's right, nowt. He didn't want to commit to ANY contract with Rovers, never mind the length.
He knew what he was doing alright, didn't he ? He chose a club where he knew he'd get first team football - a team, a club and a manager on the up and leaving the losers to carry on their downward spiral.
Not a bad couple of years' work, Keano.

He was on loan to you and Rovers hadn't a penny to scratch their arses with. Whichever dickhead was in charge then must have thought he'd be worth a punt but no money, no hope.
Rovers still haven't.

Yup, an England centre-back, a proper one not like that useless ugly sack of shite you sold, going for £18 mill these days would be....
No matter, we'll find another excellent replacement to train up.
What kind of talent are Rovers attracting these days ?

Re: Michael Keane
Here's the real point. He can stay where he is, where he knows that he's appreciated, or he can take the chance of going somewhere where nothing is for sure. Maybe he's the Norwegian Blue parrot in the famous Monty Python sketch, and he's "pining for the fjords" (or the Manchester equivalent of it), or maybe he'll be nailed to his perch, and be satisfied where he is.
Re: Michael Keane
I'd imagine it is going to be fairly easy to get a bidding war going on this one.

Re: Michael Keane
I think if we ask him to he'd honour his contract.
He's not the Shackle sort to spit his dummy.
That being the case we are in a position to hold on for top dollar if we chose to. The club will probably take Keanes wishes into account but it's looking good wether he stays or goes.
Personally I hope he stays. The hardest part of playing for Burnley is getting recognition, oh how that has changed.
