Barton manipulates the media once again....
Joey Barton really does seem to have sussed out the press. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned it on here, his interview with the French press for his new book (released in France this week) seems to have been picked up by everyone.
I enjoyed the article in the Journal du Dimanche, it starts off talking about the crappy little room at Gawthorpe where the interview took place on a couple of worn out chairs with some soundproofing sponge on the walls that has seen better days.
Once again, he said all the right things to please the Marseille fans and upset the Parisians but what struck me most was how he got the attention of so much of the UK and French Press. One comment about Kante not being as good as he's made out to be and a few choice words about Payet having done nothing special, other than one season in the Premier, and Joey's back in the spotlight once again.

Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
He's right about Payet isn't he?
Kante - don't agree with him there, but if it gets the frogs to read his book then it will work.

I read it on here. Bit odd though, English translated to French and back to English.

If Payet and kante aren't all that what does that make Barton ?
They both achieved more last season than he has in his entire career.

Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
What did Payet achieve then last season at club level??
Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
Firstly why does it have to be just at club level ? That makes no sense.Sidney1st wrote:What did Payet achieve then last season at club level??
But since you ask other than being their leading scorer in a season where West Ham pretty much beat all of the top 6 sides, finished in their highest position in Premier League with a record 62 points and probably the highest (or one of them) number of assists in the whole league......probably not much !!!
Oh and getting to the final of the Euros as one on France's best players wasn't that bad either.

Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
So he had a purple patch at West Ham last season and then had a tantrum to force his move back to France....
That purple patch then carried on into an international tournament, but previously he'd made the odd appearance here and there for France.
I'd have to check but is he having a great season back in France?
I know he's still having a whine about West Ham
To say he achieved more in one season then Barton has done in his whole career is a bit over the top.

Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
Is this the same cheating sulking bitching lazy unmotivated diving Payet who Buggered off in huff and tantrum letting down the club the fans and teammates by going on strike when the hammers were bang in the relegation zone?

Do you have to be the better footballer to make a comment then?TVC15 wrote:If Payet and kante aren't all that what does that make Barton ?

I think Rooney is well past it, but then he has acheived more than me in the game so I guess I'm wrong.

I'm not saying what Payet did was right - clearly it wasn't and he let down his manager, team mates and most importantly the fans.Sidney1st wrote:So he had a purple patch at West Ham last season and then had a tantrum to force his move back to France....

But yes he did achieve more last year than Barton has done In his career - Barton was brilliant for us last season of that there is no doubt and he's been great this year aswell. Look back on his previous 8 years before he joined us and it really is not that great for someone who was on £3.5m a year for the whole of that period....it just isn't.
Barton is just doing what he does here - being controversial for the sake of it. Trying to wind up Parisians again and make himself into this cult Marseille hero - a team he hardly played for at a time when the team were pretty sh-ite....and ain't much better now.
His comments on Kante are again just to get publicity. I think he is probably the only person i have heard this season who has said something negative about Kante - but then again if he said something positive nobody would be interested !
Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
Payet signed for West Ham on the back of a record-breaking season in France. He'd been named in the Ligue 1 team of the year a couple of times. He was seen as one of the top talents in Europe, and it was a surprise he went to West Ham in the first place.
Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
Marseille finished 2nd in the French League in Barton's season there and he played more than half of their league games.TVC15 wrote:Barton is just doing what he does here - being controversial for the sake of it. Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
You are correct - no you don't. It's just a bit rich for an existing player to be coming out and criticising other players who ate both better than Barton now and were previously.lucs86 wrote:Do you have to be the better footballer to make a comment then?

Bit like Juke coming out with an article saying he thinks Andre Gray should be scoring more goals in the Premier League.
Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
Finished 2nd in a crap league and evidence of how average their team was can be seen in how they did in champions league the year after - was it not the worst ever performance by a French team as they did not get a single point ?Tall Paul wrote:Marseille finished 2nd in the French League in Barton's season there and he played more than half of their league games.
Playing for a team for 4 or 5 months 20 odd times is "hardly" playing for me - he has probably spent more minutes writing articles about his time at Marseille than he did on the pitch.

It's normal for French teams to do crap in tournaments, the National team has done it a few times now.

Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
Kante got himself a PL winners medal.
Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
But apart from winning the league, what has he actually achieved?
Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
Really ?cutsy123 wrote:What did they achieve?
If you are referring to what medals did Payet win then yes you are correct - he achieved less than the substitute who came on for whatever lower division team won the Johnson Paints trophy.
If you are talking being one of the 3 or 4 best players in the Premier League, leading goal scorer in the best season West Ham have had in the Premier, beating every top side in the league and being MoM in most / all of those games and then starring for a national team that got to the final of a major championship then I guess Payet did achieve quite a lot.
Oh and the goals he scored were hardly tap ins either
Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
Joey's point in the article was that Payet wasn't pulling up trees before he arrived at West Ham and that truly great players like Zlatan are consistently good.TVC15 wrote:Really ?

Re: Barton manipulates the media once again....
As pointed out he was very good before he signed for West Ham.
I don't think anyone is calling him a great or comparing him to Zlatan....Payet's salary level was closer to Barton's than Zlatan's.

Who cares what Payet has achieved, the guy's a joy to watch. Insane freekicks, rabona assists, dribbling round four or five players at a time. He's ace.

Barton talking out of his ass again, attention seeking. Payet and Kante are world class players something Barton will never be.

The folly of having a pop at someone's opinion because they are not as good as the person they have an opinion on.

Nah sod that, I'm with Joey, bored of pundits lining up to praise Kante. He's been playing out of his skin as a marathon runner with positional sense to break up play but it's a bit over the top.
I like a dissenting voice to disrupt the stream of platitudes. Following the game, reading the same stuff every day, it's better with input from people like Barton.
