The greatest fear is
not Keane leaving - very likely
not Gray leaving - likely
not Heaton leaving - unlikely?
but Dyche leaving...
I don't think we dare contemplate this.
He could say that his job is done, having taken Burnley into the PL and kept them there - hopefully.
It may depend upon what else is available - e.g. would Leicester City be an option?
How likely is it that he will call it a day at the end of the season and who might replace him?

Surely the next progression for Dyche is to take Burnley back into Europe.

Surely the greatest fear has to be more Americanisms creeping into the English language.

Tbh, if we stop up I'm sure we can recruit a good manager if he does decide to leave.
The club have a good track record.

Done it already in the close season. At least three times from memory. Ireland in 2013, Switzerland 2015 and 2016

It's what happens when you worry too much.
The bloke's enjoying his Burnley project, we're enjoying his leadership. There will come a time, but I don't think you ought to worry about it yet.

Re: The greatest fear is
SD has started a legacy here that can potentially take us forward for many years to come. He know's the Board aren't 'trigger happy' and will back him. Would he get that sort of support and time elsewhere? In this day and age I'd doubt it. I would like to see the board tie SD down to a long term contract accepting we'll have one or two wobbles along the way.
My greatest fear as a Burnley support is not to get carried away and start throwing millions away for untried or average players.

Re: The greatest fear is
I've thought for the last eighteen months that Dyche will leave at the end of the 2016/17 season, however at this point I've convinced myself (just about) that Dyche is definitely right for Burnley, but more importantly, in the modern climate of sacking managers despite their stock still being relatively high, that Burnley is right for Dyche!
Second consecutive season in the Prem...a new challenge.
Barnfield...a new luxury.
Working with higher caliber players... starting to come to fruition.
There's still a lot here for Dyche.
If he goes, he leaves a legacy and as a true hero. The man has been (and remains) amazing!

Managers and players will come and go, my fear is that with an extended spell in top flight directors may be tempted to cash in. Tradition etc will then count for nothing and the risks as shown with lots of examples are immense.

How often do you change your job and locale? He's got job security, he's loved and respected, he wants a stable environment and not much pressure for his wife and children, he's on a fantastic salary and he's fairly new to his work inasmuch as he's only been a football manager for a few years and still has another 20 years in which to mess up at 'bigger' clubs.

His kids are growing up without him being present day in day out, or if he drives home each night what a bind of a commute that is.
Said it two years ago the best investment we can make is to charter a helicopter, to get him door to door quickly. It would cost what, 100k?

Loyalty.
Dyche has it, Burnley football club have it.
Both need and value it.
Dyche knows he will never get this level of loyalty anywhere else in English football.
He is not going anywhere

I've just checked, Burnley to Northampton is 3 hours by car. I can't imagine a helicopter saving much time when you consider the travel time to get to and from a suitable landing spot.NRC wrote:His kids are growing up without him being present day in day out, or if he drives home each night what a bind of a commute that is.

May be the club could find a place close to where the manager and players spend most of their time that has plenty of open spaceRileybobs wrote:I've just checked, Burnley to Northampton is 3 hours by car. Re: The greatest fear is
I was convinced this would be the last season of Dyche managing Burnley. I still think it could be the case but with the teams in the Premier League as they are currently, I'm struggling to think of where he'd go. West Brom if Pulis goes? Why would he go? An out of the blue sacking to bring in someone with a bit more 'flair'? In that case, Dyche would be way down the pecking order. Stoke? Can't see it. Leicester? You'd imagine they'd go for someone 'sparkly' if Shakespeare doesn't carry on.
It's a puzzling one. There doesn't seem to be a club Dyche could move to. He's in that limbo of obviously being a decent manager but he's English and 'old school' and even with Brexit, that just ain't fashionable.
And what with the security at Burnley, the training facilities, an increased budget... He could very likely stay on.

Re: The greatest fear is
Not sure it's quite as simple as that, although it might be. In any case, I doubt Dyche's back garden is a football field. I'd hazard a guess that a helicopter would only save about 1 hour in total travel time which isn't really significant enough to make it worthwhile.taio wrote:May be the club could find a place close to where the manager and players spend most of their time that has plenty of open space

I only think it's a real issue IF we go down. I think if we stop up he's good for at least one more season. If we fail, he's nailed on to call it a day. (Sadly)

Re: The greatest fear is
Similar thoughts to Robbo. Only recently he mentioned how he had a big say in what has been going on with the training ground and things behind the scenes. That to me says that he's happy at not just being the manager, but setting the club up for the future. You don't do that if you have thoughts of moving on.
I too was convinced that he'd be moving on at the end of this season, but I think it's still 50/50. Taking us up is one thing. Keeping us up is another - making us a mid table secure football club has got to be the ultimate.

Re: The greatest fear is
The greatest fear is.... as far as supporting Burnley goes is that
we go into meltdown over the next 6 games or so and just manage to pick up say one point
and find ourselves in the relegation struggle and having to pick up a couple of wins in our last 3 or 4 games.
And we lose a couple of key players to injury.
Having seconds though as to whether the above is a fear.
More like a absolute bloody nightmare in terms of the nerves involved.

Re: The greatest fear is
We will be playing Premier League again next season.
The Board will have discussed a "5 year plan" with Sean Dyche. In that time Sean will have planned to get Burnley back into Europe. The funds will be available to meet the needs for that plan. Sean Dyche won't look at another club until that plan has been delivered.
Dare to Dream.

Re: The greatest fear is
its only my opinion, but i reckon if you had stood on the Turf having gained promotion, and done it surrounded by your family (as he did) then its a bit more than just "moving on".
Those memories will mean a great deal to the man without a shadow of doubt.
His plan and tactics worked. He was naturally idolised by us lot for managing this amazing feat, that too will be burned into his soul. Who wouldn't be captivated by that rich mixture of emotion?
The club want him to stay, he has won the right to be listened to in the boardroom.
Not only that,he went and proved himself again when the task seemed impossible.
Nobody would consider leaving all that without very serious introspection. I rather believe he will fight it out with us all over again to take the team even further forward.
i fervently hope so anyway.
Best manager we have had, and one of the best in the business. He'll stick with us.

Re: The greatest fear is
If a good offer comes along he is likely to go. However, I think he'll stay a while longer, he's done the harder yards working on a tight budget, getting the training facilities and overseen a massive improvement of the club as a whole.
He can now reap the rewards, better facilities to work from, increased budgets, probably a nice bonus and salary increase.
Not only will he have a bigger budget I'm sure it's more fun trying to spend from a wider pool of players too. It's well known we've been expanding European scouting.
Many reasons why he would stay.

And Howe. He should never have left Bournemouth to start with
Re: The greatest fear is
I think SD is learning his trade at the right pace. He hasn't been given an open cheque book to make signings that would be a huge gamble to the clubs financial future, he has over time got more money and used it effectively, overseen better facilities and I would argue better players. This season he has used a plan B and shown he is adapting as a manager. His CV is improving and should we be relegated I would fear a big Championship club offering him the chance to take them to the PL, whilst we remain in the top flight I hope and believe we have nothing to fear. UTC in SD we trust

I am really not that interested in playing in Europe as that would be the season we were most likely to go down. It is getting way too far ahead of ourselves when there is still a big job to be done in the next few weeks.
