Holland.

Post by Saxoman » Wed Mar 29, 2017 12:25 am

I was viewing their line up tonight, and thought to myself.. Is this the worst dutch side for generations? When wjnaldum is a star player, your pretty poor.

Yes, but nonetheless, Hollands team used to be packed with household names. I haven't a clue who any of their players are these days. What's happened to the ajax youth production line? I reckon they are going through a lean time.

Some good players in there still, but its becoming more common that a lot of international teams that were packed with Star players when we were younger no longer are.

I've never heard of any of the Italian players either (except Buffon).

Who's Immobile - sounds like an old fashioned centre-half. I notice though that they have (nearly) a philosopher, a composer and a dessert specialist on the subs bench.

Holland going through a tough time, lack of talent. It's happened to every country, except Germany.

Germany had a bad spell for a while. I remember Shearer scoring a winner against them in the Euro's when they looked at their poorest. They came back from it big time, as will the Dutch.

The Germans bad spell didn't last long, though they did have one.
They also have a league that isn't massively populated by hugely overpaid imports.

But still think Holland have much more 'comeback' chance than the OPs club.

1997-2006 was there worst spell and even then they were decent.

A bad German side would be beaten finalists (like in 2002) or beaten semi finalists. So I reckon you're right. I do recall them having a bad Euro, 2000, I think it was, but apart from that they've either been good, very good or very very good.

Donnarruma is one of the biggest talents in the game at the min, debut for AC Milan at 16 and has been their No.1 since then.
