Seems a lot of fuss for the sake of selling (according to the first post) 300 seats. Even if 50% of the people who were asked to move agreed to it you might sell another 100 or so seats. At an average cost of about £300 per season ticket that'd be an extra £30,000 revenue. It'd probably cost nearly that much to administer. Fine sentiments, but not really worth the bother.

Now I would like to go in the CFS with my grandchildren who are not very tall and I have a problem standing for long periods. If all the CFS members would agree to sit down this would be achievable.I am sure there are others like me who would like to do the same and therefore the club could sell more ST in the CFS.What is the difference asking people to sit down to asking people to move up a seat?

One is a legal requirement, the other is a request I believe.

In fact I'm probably being over generous imagining another 100 seats can be sold. Realistically the only empty seats likely to be brought together via a voluntary scheme would probably need to be no more than half a dozen seats apart. It's unlikely you'd get the agreement of everyone to move for seats further apart than that and I suspect that would reduce the numbers that can be brought together significantly.

It sounds like a perfectly good idea, especially for the JMU where it really does prevent people getting season tickets for their kids because there aren't 2/3 together.

None. Although it is a given that most people who go in there stand and people go in for that reason. The club have even unofficially recognized it that way. Someone going on that stand is almost certainly only going in for atmosphere. Otherwise if you want a behind the goal view you would go in the JML or JMU, the latter of which offers free tickets for kids and no restricted view which the CFS has even if people sit down.

One problem I can foresee with the idea is that the older stands namely CFS and BLS both have restricted views from some seats due to columns and therefore its not always possible to move one to the side.

And I'm the sad git that often goes on alone, as I have to pick and choose which games I can take my father on, him being 89. I have just managed to buy 2 tickets for the WHU game in the BLS without restricted views, but there are very few seats left. Stoke game i bought one of the odd single seats again in the BLS.

There are possibly a few people like me that buy single tickets when we can make it to a game.

I really don't see why it would cost anything. There are times when the ticket office is very busy and times when it is quiet, it just needs current staff to ring a couple of people everytime they have a spare few minutes, and ask if that ST holder would consider moving one seat one way or the other.
It shouldn't be a long conversation and if seat holder agrees and those around also agree, then it can be confirmed by email ,and then the next day, or whenever they have the time, they can look at the next potential seat swaps.
I don't actually think this has anything to do with money. It's more to do with trying to free up more "pairs" of tickets, (which people are looking for) rather than odd ones. Most people would agree that sitting with a friend or family makes the match-day experience a whole lot better.

The phone call costs, the reprinting and reissue of the season card costs (seat numbers are printed on them so they'd need reissuing). If you have two empty seats on a row in the same block it could need the agreement of 15-20 people to bring them together. That's a lot of phoning and re-printing just to sell another couple of season tickets.

But it's possible to get two seats together for a match if you buy early enough anyway.

As someone who doesn't have a season ticket but buys a pair of tickets when I can make it to home matches I can see the sense in this. For the JHU and the JMU the vast majority of available tickets are ruled out as they are singles, and the same for the back half of the JML and JHL in the centre, so you're left with wings or low down in the two lower tiers, restricted view in the Bob Lord or the CFS (which isn't suitable for everyone).

It would be nice to free those seats up, less as a money making exercise, and more just to make the seats a bit more attractive.

I agree it's too late to do with the season ticket holders for next year though, if they've already been sold then that's that. It would be worth bearing in mind for when the period for seat reservations has passed though and new season tickets (or seat swaps) are in action. Those people clearly aren't attached to a seat so there is more scope for re-jigging things to try and avoid leaving odd seats.

We have 5 STs together in JMU and there has been an empty single seat next to me all season.Maybe it's ABC's.Would have no problem moving across a seat but it would mean the issue of 5 new ST cards.I would not move to the CFS if you paid me I was just trying to see what the reaction of the CFS members would be in my comments above.

Sounds like this needs trialling at a Village School Nativity play first, then when it doesn't even work there we can forget about it.

A bit bizarre, the ground has suitable areas for everyone at the moment. Everybody should be happy.

Most if not all of the CFS are just happy to be in that stand and not a specific seat.

Having weighed up the information on this thread I have decided against contacting the club regarding the matter.

Thanks for taking part.

For the record, I don't think we shouldn't be able to buy seats that lead to isolated seats being left.
I thought that's how the online system worked but clearly not.

However, it's been an interesting use of 15mins of my life.
How about raising a question about changing from claret and blue to green and black vertical stripes?
Just an idea.

My opinion hasn't changed just the barriers in the way have become more obvious.

Leaving single seats makes it harder for the club to sell the seat. There are already plenty of single seats you could purchase instead of creating more.

The barriers in the way are the fans, not the club.
