Re: Club Accounts Released
This bloke didn't change the name of the file.
The accounts are testimony to the stewardship of the board in an era when most owners haven't a tenth of the nous or interests of the club at heart that ours do. As fans though, the scariest numbers are the 2015 numbers which will be amplified in 2017 and, with a fair wind, in 2018:
Match income 6,014
Television rights 66,586
We don't matter any more. If, literally, none of us went any more, it wouldn't really matter. Not talking about Burnley in particular but think of the costs you would save if you didn't have any fans to look after. All that management, ticket office, policing, stewarding, maintaining the stadium (which of course you could sell and move to a much smaller space with no car parks and surrounding area anywhere if you're in a valuable plot of land). You can CGI the crowd in for TV - that technology already exists.
So, next time you wonder why Sky have moved a match at two days' notice to Abu Dhabi at 3am on a Thursday, remember ; Match income 6,014 : Television rights 66,586
These accounts are nothing to do with these people

Re: Club Accounts Released
That's not a bad point actually, and if we are due to make a huge profit then perhaps investment in the ground is seriously due, and warranted?
I'd love the outside of the Bob Lord Stand, above any other stand, to be an impressive glass structure as that's the first impression of the club.

Yeah. I realise I wasn't clear, but I mean more of a large glass facade.

Re: Club Accounts Released
For me the promotion bonuses are crazy for a club of our size, no wonder we struggle to sign players on, we've spent all the money already, and we do the same thing every year.
A bonus for staying in the division might be justifiable but to hand money away before you even have it seems foolish.
Few other professions outside financial services and entertainment would dream of doing such a thing.
If players aren't motivated by anything other than money time perhaps to end this great game.

So you want to make the financial incentive/reward to get promoted smaller or do away with it?ablueclaret wrote:For me the promotion bonuses are crazy for a club of our size, no wonder we struggle to sign players on, we've spent all the money already, and we do the same thing every year.

" Thanks for all the hard work lads, but we've decided you're getting naff all this year for it...."
Bonus for staying in which division?
10years or so in the championship, is that worth a bonus?
You've never managed anyone ever have you?

Strangely I have Sidney but doing a good job is reward itself, just the higher you go the less that applies, those at the top always need confirmation of their greatness, a sad lot in my estimation but that as they say it's the way of the world. Not a world I'm highly enamoured of.

Re: Club Accounts Released
So you'd know that rewarding success is important to help keep employees driven.
Some people have their own driving forces, but a financial incentive is always good.
When I was at Euro Car Parts I earnt more bonus at the end of the year then some people at other motor factors took home in a month.
Those sorts of bonuses encourage staff to work towards various targets throughout the year.
Admittedly ECP are slave drivers a lot of the time, but they reward the staff well if they achieve targets.

Re: Club Accounts Released
Paying the bonuses for performance makes complete sense.
Payout £13m to gain £120m Sky money seems very good management to me.
Some would say a profit sharing incentive.

Re: Club Accounts Released
I look at bonuses another way. For a club of limited finances it's a way of affording unaffordable players. It makes sense because success earns money and a bigger portion of that earned money can be paid in bonuses. No success equals no extra income equals no bonuses so we still are in the black paying lower wages.

I am no accountant so it's very interesting to hear people's insights and educated guesses on this thread. Thanks all.

Pay the going rate, say upto 60k a week. And if we go down we will end up going bankrupt
Or
Refuse to pay the going rate, stick to what we can afford (say 15k a week) and get relegated cos we can't attract any good players.
