O/T Burnley Council

Post by conyoviejo » Fri Mar 31, 2017 1:19 pm

Great to see Burnley Council doing their bit towards helping the Travelling Community by identifying land for them in the Stoneyholme area of Burnley.. Shmae the residents don't seem to be in agreement with the them..

That's going to result in an interesting mix....

I note they've suggested the travellers are located in areas that aren't dominated by Asians though.

Heald Street would probably be a better location to a degree, but no ones going to want them near the town centre.

It will be interesting to see what the council do about the petition Sidney..

It's only a similar reaction to the one 3 years ago when the council identified sites in Burnley Wood and Stoops.

I thought they were called travellers for a reason, why do they need a permanent site?

But of course we all know the angle you're going for here Conyoviejo, and it's the same racist sh1t-stirring you've been doing on here for ages. Grow up you tit.

Perhaps you can explain to me what's racist in this thread please Walton ? Nothing racist into wanting to help the Travellers out by opening a five van site for them is there? Or a petition by a group of people against the siting of it.. I seem to think you must have racist tendencies. :o

You have no interest in the travellers, you just saw an opportunity to kick up a stink about asians, as usual.

I happen to think your username is pretty apt, btw.

I have nothing to do with Burnley Council, and am not even a Burnley ratepayer, but I think it must be clarified, that Burnley - along with every other council, are legally bound to identify potential traveller sites in their Local Plan, whether they want to or not. And of course in every borough these sites are inevitably opposed by the residents, so it's not much of a news story really unless they intend to locate one "In your backyard".

Somewhere to register their mercs and bmw's I suppose for insurance reasons.

They need a fixed address, although some are probably registered to their Irish addresses, or UK houses where some travellers have settled down.

I do find the travellers part laughable though, they just mooch around ripping people off, stealing, dodging taxes and generally making a mess.

Good to know that NIMBYism is so inclusive.

“We are not against the gypsy or the traveller community as they are a minority community just as the residents in this area are, and thus we have every sympathy with them..... But we don't want them here."

I wouldn't go as far as that, even if they don't like travellers.

Although there aren't any women in the photo.

He said: “Residents were not consulted on the proposal, people were not aware of the consultation, hence not many turned up at the consultation meeting.

Has there ever been a proposal for a travellers site where the locals have said "fair enough, this would be a good location" or raised a petition to welcome them to the neighbourhood?

Has anyone considered that this is quite smart from the planners?
Legally bound to identify a site for travelers - so designate one that meets the legal criteria, but in an area that they are v unlikely to want to utilise, so they will just stay away from Burnley?
Doubt they are actually clever enough to have worked that one out, ,but it could foreseeably be the outcome.

Near enough, there's a 20 pitch site about 3 miles from me on the edge of Barbara Cartland's old land. She donated it to them but I think it may have been a crafty ploy to avoid them getting land elsewhere. Something about distances between sites.

They don't cause too much of a problem, bit annoying when they're blocking the roads with the pony trapping and leaving horse sh!t everywhere.

The occasional long stretch for GBH or murder etc tends to keep the numbers down.
