I still have fond memories of our final game of the 09-10 season going out by beating Spurs 4-2

Coming from 2 nil down (Bale & Luca Modric?!) to win 4-2 restored a little pride in what was turbulent season.

That's when Spurs and Arsenal were vying for the last Champions' League spot wasn't it. Tottenham had to better the Gunners' result. They started the game on fire and went into an easy and quick two nil lead; we were awful as we more or less always were under Laws. Then it became obvious that Arsenal were going to win their game so the Spurs players all went to the beach and we won what turned out to be our first pre-season friendly of the next campaign.

Spurs had already guaranteed the Champions League spot by beating Citeh during the midweek, think this was just about them finishing higher than Arsenal and possibly avoiding the play offs.

I think you're right. Either way, once they realised they couldn't beat Arsenal's result, they were suddenly unmotivated, and Laws' failing management tenure got an undeserved shot in the arm.

Back to the original subject. I seem to remember Jimmy Greaves scored for Spurs from outside the box with no backlift and Harry Thomson (I think) never had time to move.

He scored but it doesnt stand òut for me,and im sure it was frank caspers 1st game signed from rotheram. £35.000 and the coach driver from spurs got beat up by burnley fans on the fulledge car park that got the newspaper headlines more than the game!

Fifty years ago today we beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 on the Turf with goals from Les Latcham and Gordon Harris. We did beat Spurs 5-1 at home in the 1967/68 season.

I dont think the op is specifically referring to the exact date. Just our meeting with them 50 years ago.

To relate this in more detail to our game today, though, I feel 5-1 to be rather unlikely.

Indeed 4-2 would be a surprise; however much a welcome one.

Clearly if we add the two historical scores together for 9-3 then this becomes a somewhat fantastical potential prediction - and of course an average of 4.5-1.5 is impossible - BUT, if we scale down by 66%, thereby acknowledging lower modern-day scoring-rates, we end up with 3-1.

That would do me. 8-)

But with the confidence engendered by my recent Spot The Ball form I'll go for 9-3 anyway. :D

we'd have to scale down by 33% to achieve a 3 - 1 result Redders! ;)

I'll go without half-time rations if I'm incorrect! :)

Fair enough, CB. :D

Last time I looked, 6-2 was 66% of 9-3.

And if we subtract that from 9-3, we are, as I said, left with 3-1.

I'm having nice hot coffee, btw.

A bit harsh. But I can't think of a better to put it.
Truth hurts, I guess.
