Vokes is a decent player but far too polite for a big lad. Barnes is decent player but frustrating at times. Neither receive good service and mostly feed off scraps.

No I can read. It's the term 'lethal' I am drawing attention to. Neither Barnes or Vokes are lethal in front of goal. You missed that. Look in a dictionary and you may understand.

What I struggle to understand is why we only have 3 strikers...

Vokes is not PL standard and never will be (imho) BUT we don't help either him nor Barnes by getting good crosses in for them. Barnes will battle and chase anything, that's not really Sam's strength. We need creativity to get us in better positions to feed the strikers. They aren't even feeding on scraps at the moment

That's true...the 3 creative players in the squad...Defour, JBG and Brady rarely play, for a variety of reasons.

By all means go with Barnes/Vokes up top if you feel that their physical presence will better against the absolute beasts that are Vertonghen and Alderweireld...
But if you insist on that, then for Gods sake, put Robbie Brady on the left bloody wing. The lad looks a fish out of water on the right hand side.

Whatever. Can't play two lumps together in the PL, really don't want to see the Vokes - Barnes combo again. Gray and one of them, my preference would be Vokes but there's not much in it - neither are good enough long term if we're looking to progress.

Would have been a perfect opportunity to try Hendrick on the right (especially considering he didn't have one of his better games) from where he could have still come narrow to support in the middle.
Brady Barton Defour Hendrick would have been fewer round pegs in square holes, especially considering Hendrick has played on the right internationally and I think for Derby on occasion, too.
We have to get Defour into the side and Brady now needs a run in his favoured position. Maybe a step too far for Tuesday but I might even consider a 4141 with Westwood holding, giving more license for Defour to link midfield and attack.

None of the three strikers are Premier league class, imo

Unfortunately you will be seeing Barnes and Vokes together again. It was a waste of time today.

Possibly but I suspect most opposition managers will be more wary of Gray than the other two, at least he poses some threat with his pace which can, potentially, stretch teams. However it's questionable whether he has the touch for a long term career in the top division.

Barnes jumps into defenders and appeals for fouls...................... then moans and kicks people.

He's a bruiser who's very fortunate to be starting PL games. Absolute must that we upgrade in the summer.

Hi Sam. How do you feel about your performance today? I thought you were very disappointing. You certainly weren't PL quality today. I'll be honest, I've always quite liked you, but today you weren't very good. You certainly won't start ahead of Barnes until you show you can do much better.

I think they're both as sh*te as each other at Pl level.

"Barnes jumps into defenders and appeals for fouls"...... whereas Dele boy knows a player is nearby, falls over and gets a foul !!! Mee was incensed with his shenanigans . One law for one side, different one for us.

They are both way below Premier League standard lacking the necessary composure and pace - Championship at best
Having said that we don't give them much opportunity when our standard ball is to hoof it up the middle where decent central defenders will cope with them easily - its no coincidence that we are the lowest scorers outside of the bottom three
Without wide men who can get near to the bye line and pull balls across they are always facing away from the goal so any threat from height is pretty much nullified - the Barnes goal at Anfield is a good example of what can be achieved but that cross came from our full back
They are both contracted until 2019 so we have plenty of time to see more of the same

I like Sam, but I'd pick Barnes everytime. He frightens defenders, Sam doesn't. He's also a lot better with the ball at his feet than Sam.

Because barnes is far more mobile. Vokes really struggles pace wise at this level.

Man scoring against Belgium and the winning goal to take us up doesn't count for anything these days

Strikers goal records alongside Sam speak for itself. Ings and Gray being just two examples.
Then you have a decent return from him himself too.
Needs to feature more.
