Stephen Ward
In more positive news, is this lad ever anything less than 8 out of 10?
What a signing he has been.
Unassuming, disciplined, far from flashy although I liked his megs on Trippier and just an all round hard working defender.
Stood out today. Never lets us down.

Re: Stephen Ward
I think I preferred it when we had crap left backs, there were less threads complaining about other players back then because they were all busy aiming for the left back regardless of who was playing there

Re: Stephen Ward
yes, for all the hype about jack the lad barton, the bad boy we are all told to adore, and the love ins with Barnes and defour, ward constantly outperforms all of them.
He did today, never put a foot wrong whilst all about him were booting ten yard passes about 40 yards to far, or passing stright to spurs players.
Ward attempts runs at midfielders to gain ground, those that are well paid to do this job look for the back pass. Ward is THE claret player this season.

Re: Stephen Ward
been superb for us
Re: Stephen Ward
I don't know how he lost his place when he came back from being injured in the PL last time. The Stoke away game we won he was incredible best left back since Kalvenes.

Re: Stephen Ward
My player of the season without question. Best left back in Claret and blue that I can think of. I wonder if he had played against Lincoln....

Re: Stephen Ward
Was superb yesterday but there are a lot of games where he struggles to get in the last third. Lowton rightly gets hammered for his poor delivery into the box but to be fair apart from yesterday and both Sunderland games when Ward had Janazi giving him a free pass Ward very rarely gets himself in the positions Lowton does
Excellent yesterday and always solid defensively but if we are to progress as a team ward needs to offer more in the final third

Re: Stephen Ward
Disagree. Ward is often our best attacking threat. He takes the ball from defending third to attacking third more than any other player by a country mile. He might not find himself in the space Lowton does, but he is often found in the attacking third working the ball.Devils_Advocate wrote:Was superb yesterday but there are a lot of games where he struggles to get in the last third. Re: Stephen Ward
Will be interested to see how he does if he gets Brady to play with going forward but whilst he's a better fullback than Lowton he nowhere near even gets in the positions Lowton does to put balls in the box.
Yesterday he was absolute quality but I think the reason he stood out is because the attacking play we saw is not the norm
