Well he waited quite a long time. He could easily have had 2 or 3 yellows in the first 5 minutes. Got stupidly booked for dissent, and could easily have got a straight red and a 3 match ban for the challenge that correctly earned him a 2nd yellow.
All refs make errors but -along with most supporters (I think) - I consider Atkinson to be in the top 2 or 3 in the country.

If you don't show dissent and don't wave your arms in your opponent's face then you might not get booked and sent off. And always remember that it was Atkinson who got it absolutely right with Barnes at Chelsea two seasons ago.
