Kicking towards CFS in 2nd half

Post by Claretmatt4 » Wed Apr 05, 2017 7:43 am

Can't remember the last time we were kicking towards the CFS in the second half. Why the change last night?

I'd rather we did anyway, allows us to suck the ball in rather than the away fans!

How is the decision made?

Doesn't the team that wins the coin toss decide?

Kick off
PROCEDURE

the team that wins the toss of a coin decides which goal it will attack in the first half
their opponents take the kick-off
the team that wins the toss takes the kick-off to start the second half
for the second half, the teams change ends and attack the opposite goals
after a team scores a goal, the kick-off is taken by their opponents
For every kick-off:
all players must be in their own half of the field of play
the opponents of the team taking the kick-off must be at least 9.15 m (10 yds) from the ball until it is in play
the ball must be stationary on the centre mark
the referee gives a signal
the ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves
a goal may be scored directly against the opponents from the kick-off

By the toss of the coin. I always make the assumption that it's the away team 'turning us round' - I'd be interested to know our record this way though - I reckon it's pretty good. Though last night was the first time this season we've played this way round, we beat Derby with a hurricane of second half goals into the Cricket Field last season (and lost to Preston that way round). Theyre just the ones that spring to mind.

I think, if you look closely at the TV pictures it was us in the Jimmy Mac that were BLOWING the ball in ;)

Also, I seem to think that we played that way in the second half quite a lot last season. I reckon the away team is instructed to do this when the coin toss is made in the belief that we prefer playing the other way.

I have said for years that it's one of the lesser known rules of the game. "Burnley will always attack the CFS in the first half of every game played at Turf Moor" It just shows how rubbish that ref was that he actually didn't know that rule! (But all's well that ends well!!)

We used to always try to atrack the Cricket Field second half back in the late 80's and early 90's.

It was probably Lee Grant who gave them a heads up about our preference
in this respect.

Sneaky bastid. :(

Mind you, suppose it was down to who won the toss......

Ben Mee said that we sometimes turn teams round if we win the toss away to try to unsettle them a bit.

It will be to use the slope 2nd half. 'Do the hardwork in the first half' was the Sunday league cry.

The double headed coin we normally supply to the referee has gone missing so we probably lost the toss.

Last time was Nottingham Forest at home in Feb last year and we played the same way in the previous game against Rotherham. They are the only two since the Derby game.

We used to kick into the CFE second half but if we didn't we would walk around to The Bee Hole at half time, it was an End then not a Stand ah the good ole days.

An added factor is most away teams choose to shoot toward their own fans in the second half too so more often than not we play towards CFS in the first half.

I spent quite a lot of time in and around the backroom staff of the Turf in the late 80's and early 90's. If we were turned around we kicked toward the Cricket Field second half. At that time captains were given clear instruction that we kick towards the Bee Hole second half. It's the reason we have always warmed up at the Cricketfield end up to the toss being done before the teams came out.... so if the other club wasn't aware of the superstition they'd more often than not leave it as it was and kick towards the Cricketfiled.

Said this before in other posts,we should attack the CFS in the second half, our noisiest support is in that stand and the James Hargreaves lower in that half

Either we always lose the toss or both our opponents and us seem to prefer shooting that was in the second half which is odd.

Worked last night anyway!

this doesnt sound correct, surely we cant have won every coin toss all season, or if we lose the toss, our opponents always choose to attack the jimmy mac in the 1st half.

Maybe some away teams don't bother with the toss and just let the home team decide. In other words they don't give a toss which way they play in the 1st half.

I'm assuming as teams now only need one player for a kick off, that player could just welly it forward straight into the goal with one kick.

Previously a second player had to touch it so wouldn't be "direct" from kick off

A second player didn't have to touch it before. The reason there was always a second player in the centre circle at kick off and there isn't now is because the kick off no longer has to be played forward.
