Half time draw
As a regular golden gambler I look forward to the half time draw.
However frequently we get some fantastic old clarets making the draw but at half time when most of the crowd are out of their seats.
As a suggestion to the club could they announce the player and let them come out to the full crowd before the team then reappear at half time?
There are certain players that would deserve a big welcome and get the crowd going pre match.

To avoid a clarets legend that was part of a budget team that took us to the premier league ?DCWat wrote:I nipped downstairs quicker than usual on Tuesday.

Re: Half time draw
They used to do the draw and then walk round the pitch perimeter but that was stopped. They've even stopped doing the draw on the pitch now, used to be in the centre circle. In our stand it's impossible sometimes to even see who is making the draw.

Re: Half time draw
I thought this was a tip.
Been saying to back half time draw for about 3 seasons now. Someone will have the stats but I would guess that over 2/3 of our games under Dyche are HT Draw.
Anyway. Back on topic.

There's an ex Burnley player every week, don't you know. Do you nip up stairs each week to applaud or did you just fancy a shout of Beast for old times sake?
Legend - now there are legends at Burnley as there are all clubs, but if we are putting Brian in that category, we are going to need more wall space for the extra player photos.

Re: Half time draw
How many goalkepers have played 300 games in ten years for us? And how many if so were at the same level as beast?

Re: Half time draw
His number of appearances isn't really of any relevance. Plenty clubs have had players on the books for many a year, that are not great. We've had plenty ourselves - Graham branch probably had over 250!
I've said it before that on his day he could make great saves, but more often than not his game was not commanding his box (particularly for a big bloke) not coming out for crosses, woeful distribution and the odd howler. Consistent he was not which was why his managers invariably tried to replace him.
Of course in his defence he often retook the number one spot but you can't tell me that someone such as Kiraly was not a better keeper than him.

Re: Half time draw
So the many keepers (international ones at that) he saw off and many appearances are irrelevant?
If he was so bad we would have replaced him with better. Fact is it took us ten years to do so. For the level we were and the resources we had he was outstanding.

Re: Half time draw
I'm no fan of Boyd at all but like Jensen you have to admire him for fighting off so called better players to keep getting back in the team.
Re: Half time draw
He's certainly a bigger Burnley legend than a few going up on the wall. Kieran Trippier for one, Trevor Steven for another. Steven may have been on to great things, but he was here five minutes and half his games were in the third tier.
Re: Half time draw
I thought he was the major factor in our promotion to the premier league, something I thought I would never see, and our cup run. For that season alone, I will happily refer to him as a legend.

Re: Half time draw
His one good season and he was very good on a number of occasions that season. He still made plenty of his usual errors though.
It's no wonder the word is bandied around for every Tom, Dick and Harry, if he's seen by some as a legend.
