The Oliver Cromwell of British football.
No accolade more befits SD than this, the pragmatic Puritan, for the framework see the Model Army, disciplined, organised, each member knowing their part and duty, dull on occasion but relentless, grinding down opposition into submission.
I always sided with the round heads, So he ticks lots of boxes for me, but sometimes I yearn for a little of that free spirit that Coyle had, that bit of daring do, which brought a game to life.

I'd like us to resemble The Vikings when we are away.

In reality Dyche is an absolute monarch.
But some people talk sh*t on here like their in parliament and think their armchair football opinions matter.
Long live the Dyche!

Re: The Oliver Cromwell of British football.
You need to research Cromwell more - he (like many n the period) was a vicious thug and bully who used torture and all forms of immoral and corrupt means to get what he wanted, his plundering, rewriting of history and destruction of large parts of this country has more in keeping with ISIS than football.
Re: The Oliver Cromwell of British football.
Wasn't Cromwell known for his successful foreign policy? According to you Dyche shouldn't be allowed anywhere near foreign markets.
Back to the drawing board I think, this analogy just won't do.

That appears a little one-sided Chester, I guess you were comparing him with Henry VIII ?

Re: The Oliver Cromwell of British football.
the point is though ablue, he has a very specific task to perform with this squad. Staying safe and sticking resolutely to his plan is vital.
If we had different players, it might mean we can become slightly more adventurous.
His team as you say has a rigid framework, forget the away form, we have done remarkably well collecting massive home wins.
We might occasionally ride our luck, but all teams have to do this.
It will be interesting to see what changes are coming on the players front, but for now we are benefitting from his astute management.

nothing one sided about that perspective - unless you choose to ignore what he actually did irrespective of your views on his "cause"

Re: The Oliver Cromwell of British football.
Cromwell was probably Britain's best example of an Absolute Monarch in all but name. He had all the qualities ABC lists and much as it pains me to Agree with ABC on anything it is an excellent parallel to base his comments on. The only difference with me is that I would have been 100% Royalist and yet if SD keeps us in this league he can play with 8 centre halves, I'd rather that than ever have to visit grounds like Halifax and Torquay again.CombatClaret wrote:In reality Dyche is an absolute monarch.

I would suggest that Ablue has had too many ciders in the sun.
But he's been spouting this kind of guff for years, whatever the weather.

Cromwell managed a big three points away at Naseby in the 1645-46 season.

He's a football manager. He's unlike to wage war on the Queen.

Re: The Oliver Cromwell of British football.
In terms of historical personages of the period Cromwell was head and shoulders above the rest, an awful lot of the best of English history starts with him, along of course with the Irish problem.

Hummmmm the Irish problem , say no more .
Still on the bright side of things the English have not beaten the Irish since 1987 on the field of battle as it were .
As the song go's " Youle never beat the Irish " ............................

Re: The Oliver Cromwell of British football.
You will find that Cromwell destroyed more British art and cultural history than any other, thereby forever changing peoples perceptions of this country historically - Henry VIII was very tame in comparison he mainly wanted the wealth. Cromwell wanted to obliterate any sign of what once was as it did not align to his thinking, his activities in this arena are on a level with the Nazis, Mao, Stalin and ISIS

Re: The Oliver Cromwell of British football.
I think you are mistaking him for Thomas Cromwell who did have a reputation as a cultural destroyer.
