Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
Good to see the five lads getting a further year - always disappointing when others have to leave. Khius Metz has had a bad year. I spoke to him recently and he said he was concerned given the injuries, so the extra time is good news for him.

Whichever of them is a centre half, ABC will soon be vouching for him to play in midfield. This is because the incumbent is both cultured and can provide strength to the midfield. Whoever they are.

The centre halves in the youth team are all first years (James Clarke, Oliver Younger & Scott Wilson) so we'll have to wait a year.Darthlaw wrote:Whichever of them is a centre half, ABC will soon be vouching for him to play in midfield. No big surprises on today's news I have to say.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
Always mixed feelings when I read about these events, having watched the Youth team quite a lot over the years.
Really pleased for the lads who are staying and I am hoping that they develop in the way that the club wants them to develop.
I can only wish good luck to the lads who are being released and hope that they also manage to find other clubs and are happy there.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
Always one of the best and easiest articles I write each year but always one of the most difficult given young players are leaving us. I'm just relieved I'm only writing the article and am not tasked with telling those who are leaving.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:Always mixed feelings when I read about these events, having watched the Youth team quite a lot over the years.

Have to agree with Tony's remarks in terms of who has been retained and who hasn't.
Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
I thought RJ has been scoring a few? From seeing the odd match report now and again.

His last league goal was in January - but he's not been in the side much recently.KRBFC wrote:I thought RJ has been scoring a few? From seeing the odd match report now and again.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
Tony...are we any nearer to knowing who the U18s/23s will be playing against next season ?
Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
Can't help but feel that Aghayere has been hindered by being sent out to Colne and that level of football, rather than stay within his own age group, against better players on better pitches

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
He's still played some dev squad games during his loan. He's too old for the youth team so a loan out was probably considered beneficial.Walton wrote:Can't help but feel that Aghayere has been hindered by being sent out to Colne and that level of football, rather than stay within his own age group, against better players on better pitches

The audit was conducted last month and the decision is expected next month. I am confident we will be running a Cat 2 academy next season.randomclaret2 wrote:Tony...are we any nearer to knowing who the U18s/23s will be playing against next season ?

U23 & U18 teams would be in a league with, based on this season, Barnsley, Birmingham, Bolton, Crewe, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United & Sheffield Wednesday.randomclaret2 wrote:Cheers Tony....what Leagues would that involve us in ? Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
It actually gets even better than that because the teams below the youth team, u16 downwards, will also be able to play against Cat 2 teams AND Cat 1 teams which we can't right now.randomclaret2 wrote:Cheers Tony...I wasn't sure if it was the same for both age groups.
The academy has been in a major mess. We are improving it and this will give it a massive lift.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
Would our u23 team get invited to take part in the JP Trophy? I know quite a few clubs declined but if so id hope we take full advantage of the situation despite not agreeing with reserve teams being invited in the first place.ClaretTony wrote:It actually gets even better than that because the teams below the youth team, u16 downwards, will also be able to play against Cat 2 teams AND Cat 1 teams which we can't right now.

Our U23s could be up against " you know who", when they get relegated, if we entered.

That was Cat 1 clubs only and it's not certain that experiment will be continued.KRBFC wrote:Would our u23 team get invited to take part in the JP Trophy? Re: ARTICLE: Burnley reveal contract news for scholars
They did -from the Kinetic Foundation in Croydon. It's an organisation that was set up to help young people through providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacity an capabilities to enable them to participate in and integrate into society as independent, mature and responsible individuals.CharlieinNewMexico wrote:didn't Koiki and Pingling come from a special program? I thought we signed RJ Pingling in 1894 from Corinthian Casuals
