Mrs Vintage Claret accidentally spilt diet coke on our Toshiba laptop yesterday which seems to have killed it

I used my phone to google what to do but despite trying all the recommended things and drying it out, 24 hours later it won't power on or anything (the laptop not the Mrs)

Only hope seems to be a repair shop, anyone do laptop repairs or can recommend a good reasonably priced place to take it in the Burnley area?

Depends on the spec of the laptop - if it's old and needs parts they may be almost as expensive as a new laptop tbh

Good point Rick and to be honest we are fortunate enough to be in a position where we could just go out and buy a new one if needs be but it's the family photos, i-tunes libraries etc that we'd like to recover if poss.

Anyway, I'll take it to one of the places mentioned and see if they can do owt with it.

getting access to files on the old hard disk should be a breeze for a repair firm, so you should be OK there - assuming the hard disk hasn't been fried. Hope you get it all sorted though mate - if I was closer it's something I would offer to assist with - especially getting the old files off - its easy with the right kit.

I took 3 computers at once (two that wouldn't start up)to Rapid IT and they got all the photos off them onto a USB stick. They also sell new laptops for all budgets.
Our family has done business with them about 8 or 9 times now and always top notch. If you go there get me some commission haha.

Coke is terrible for electrical stuff, it's corrosive and damages the circuit boards. There's a good chance you can get the pictures, etc off if you have another PC. If you just want the data from the disk and aren't bothered about the laptop, then I will sort FOC. You'll need to buy an external hard drive or another laptop if you want the data copying straight over, but I have disk caddys to connect the drives to my computer. Likely that you've shorted the motherboard but the disk will be fine.
