Billy Monger F4 Driver
Awful news that this young lad has had to have both lower legs amputated following his horrific accident at Donington on the weekend. Saw it happen live and initially feared the worse, probably the worst racing accident in recent memory
A just giving page has raised over £300k for the lad already.

I saw the footage and I reckon he was lucky to survive. Alex Zanardi suffered something very similar so here's hoping young Billy uses him as an inspiration and returns to racing.

There's a good chance this lad lived because of Zanardi's accident.

Are F4 cars not as rigid as a F1 car, seems in F1 today you can have any type of accident and walk away with a few bruises? Horrendous accident good luck to the young lad in the future.

Re: Billy Monger F4 Driver
the safety cell in single seaters are very robust these days and I think had he hit a blunt object his legs may have fared better. When I saw the footage he hit the back of a very slow moving car in front, which had all sorts of protrusions that could have penetrated the safety cell and wrecked his legs.Steve1956 wrote:Are F4 cars not as rigid as a F1 car, seems in F1 today you can have any type of accident and walk away with a few bruises? Wish the lad well, and I am hopeful he recovers well and still takes part in motorsport

Re: Billy Monger F4 Driver
I would doubt the F4 cars are as strong as F1 cars because they are nowhere near as fast, and F4 is a relatively cheap formula to race in so they haven't got the budgets to have carbon fibre tubs specially built. The good news; It sounds like Billy is on the mend; he is now conscious, breathing on his own and he asked how he would be able to use the clutch with his hand!

Re: Billy Monger F4 Driver
The accident itself is unusual, in that he hit a pretty much stationary car straight up the back of it, like previously mentioned, all sorts of bits would of come through the cockpit. One of the worst accidents in living memory, thankfully he's alive and I'm sure he'll become a well known inspiration as he recovers

Over £500,000 now.
Jenson Button has even donated £15,000.
