No one does selling players better than we do for a comparable club our size.

Buying someone for less than 3m selling him for 25m+ gaining promotion while employing him to earn the club 200m minimum, don't you think he has a point ?

If we could pull that off I'd be quite happy. I can't see us bringing somebody in of equivalent quality, without having to pay the equivalent price tag, or excessive wages. Then it's getting them to adjust to our system.

Over a period of years, that's probably right, but Newcastle have made some pretty extreme money sporadically:-

30 million for Sissoko to Spurs last year?
40 million plus from Liverpool for Carroll when he doesn't fit their style of play at all and was injured.
and look what they got for the others that took them down - Wijnaldum, Jaanmaat etc
Benchsitter Enrique 6.3 million.

If they didn't buy such a load of wasters they'd still be a decent premier league team.

Just sell him to the highest bidder in the summer and use the money wisely. Once we are safe get Tarks in for the last few games to start to get PL experience. I read yesterday that Tarks has sat on the bench for longer than any other player in PL history

I'd rather he stayed and helped us stay up again but if he goes it's with a big thank you and have a great career.
I'll never forget him if only for the goals at Brighton and against Boro that brought us the title.
If it becomes an auction we are in a great position.

Either say hands off - he's not for sale - thats a good way to start, that shows his value to Burnley Football Club - it drives the transfer fee up... But BURNLEY WANT TO SELL.

Enrique cost Newcastle more than they sold them I think.
You are also forgetting how much money Newcastle have wasted - Pardew brought in about 10 French players. Other than Sissoko and Cabaye how many others can you remember were a success ??

Paying £15m for the likes of Mitrovic the Red (card) is not spending wisely. Their wage bill must be still at least £50m.

There are few teams that can compare to our record in the transfer market - but I would say Southamptons record in last years is better than us - or anyone....if you then factor in how well they have done in rebuilding / finishing high up in the league.

When they get £50m plus for Van Djyk that must bring their profit on players to upwards of £150m in the last 5 years.
Recent sales include :
Lovren - £25m
Shaw - £30m
Lalana - £25m
Schneiderlin - £25m
Mane - £30m
Fonte - £10m
Clyne - £15m
Wanyama - £20m
Etc etc

I can't remember them paying big fees for many of these players.

At the end of the day unless you are Chelsea or Citeh, then the ball is in the hands of the player and his agent. We can't afford to make anyone with value, play out their contract.
We just need to make sure we get as much as we can, and wish him well.

We are fortunate that Tarks looks a good replacement. How good only time will tell.

What price do you put on a lad whose actions have helped Burnley stay up this season and will probably be England's next regular centre back, following on from the calibre of John Terry, Gary Cahill et al.?
£30 million, £40 million, more than that?

A crucial point in any negotiations is that Mike Garlick holds all the aces. It's a unique situation where all of Man Utd, Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton, amongst others, are looking to sign our player and the bidding war can begin.

A revised contract was drafted over a year ago now, one that would have made Keane Burnley's highest ever paid player, but it remains unsigned in the boardroom file (next to the one for Andrew Robertson). Clearly Keane was never going to sign that contract but in the meantime he has been a credit to both himself and Burnley Football Club.

No reason not to expect a profit on sale of £30 million and, if Man City join the queue, possibly even more for our current England international.

£40 m to anyone but Man U
They can have the discounted £35m with a cutprice deal to reflect the sell on.If we get £25 m this will show we've not moved on 're our selling policy
Always paying top money on the incoming deals and getting scammed on the outgoing.
I trust we are now a lot more savvy 're getting value for our players.I realise it's not a popular view suggesting we lost out on sales of Charlie Austin,Jay, Danny Ings and Tripp but I feel we got less than their worth.

Austin - we had no money and had to sell
Ings - was out of contract nothing we could do had he been slightly older we would have got sweet fa
Trippier - It was either the 3.5 we got or nothing as he wouldn't sign a new deal without that price in the new deal as a release clause

As for the paying top money and scammed on the outgoing thats just silly.

That's a strange observation based on the fact that it was a tribunal fee of £6m for Danny Ings and the other three were undisclosed.

Not sure how you work that out.

Austin - £4m - the only deal on the table after £6m+ fell through from Hull.
Jay - £7m - again only deal on the table.
Ings - settled by a tribunial - we had absolutely no control over the amount paid
Tripps - £3.5m buy out clause in his contract...so why / how could we ask for a penny more.

Total profit on these players btw is in the region of £20m...which is not bad going for a club that is supposedly so bad in the transfer market !!

The reason its not a "popular view" to suggest we lost out on the sale of these players is because it`s not factually correct.

If, as CTU pointed out in #57, the club wish to sell MK, then it sounds as if it's inevitable one way or another. With his recent successful appearances for England, his value and interest from big clubs have probably soared of late, the club may sense that his stock is perhaps peaking now. And that might no longer be quite the case this time next year.

True, something we really need to look at so the conveyor belt continues to run. Although we have done much better and stepped up at recruiting players for the development squad like Ginelly, Agyei etc

Name some then, no good chucking in the comment and hiding.

Sordell, Juke to name two for you.
Although we got our money back for Juke.

Vossen - sold for what we paid for him.
Hennings - we haven't sold him yet have we?

Defour - jury still out, but he's also contributed to us staying up.

Joey - bargain.
Westwood - will see more of him next season, but still a snip at £5 million considering the number of PL games he played whilst at Villa.
Hendrick - slow start, but looks good and will look better next season.
Gray - last season speaks for itself and hes not done too bad this season.
Barnes - bargain player.
Pope - Future first choice I suspect.

There are no doubt others I've missed off, but we've not done too bad.
I'll wait for you to disagree.

Ablue is definitely on a negative trajectory. Pretty much every thread and he's throwing in short negative comment with the intention of catching a bite.

More annoying is that when he thinks about it, he can add actually some decent points for debate, bit they're becoming few and far between of late. Come on Ablue, buck up!

Times today reports Michael Keane will go to Everton. £20 million. ManU get 25%. Expects regular starter given age of Everton's CBs.

Hope the £20 million is an underestimate.

With the massive windfall Everton will get from Lukaku, they should be expecting a fee of at least £30 million. If not, we hold out, tell them to stick it and tout him to City or United.

We were asking for £30 million for Keane but what with the way Lukaku rolled him for the goal last week Everton said............

"He's not very good is he? Go on then we'll take him off your hands for £20 million"

£25 million is a fair price for Keane with just one year left on his contract. There's a limit to how far we can go telling clubs to "stick it" if they hit that level.

The positive thing is that the job Dyche has done with Keane in making him a far more complete defender, as well as offering the platform for him to get recognised by England and get a move to a top club, won't have gone unnoticed. You'd like to think that if someone like Maguire were to be on our radar this summer, they'd factor that into their thinking when weighing up rival offers.

Most speculation saying Everton for £20m.
This can only lead to the conclusion that some paperwork is already in place.
As a current England international with praise being heaped on him his value has to be more than that.

I read today in a National Rag that Everton are prepared to match Burnley's valuation of £25 million for Michael. If that's correct I thought we would be asking more that that.

Get an acceptable offer on the table and then hope it sparks a bidding war. Just because we will accept £25m doesn't mean someone won't be willing to pay more if there are multiple interested parties.
