He'll have a huge part to play at this club, don't worry about that.

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
A criminal waste, we might never see the best of him.
Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
We'll see the best of him next season or he'll be on his way. He's clearly a very talented boy and I don't think he would have sat around on our bench since his arrival if Sean hadn't dangled a carrot to make him do it. Keane will go in the summer and I fully expect us to replace him with Tarks. We'll back fill with someone like Marc Roberts from Barnsley and the conveyor belt will continue to turn!!

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
Another thread questions whether a "back three" might be an option. Tarks, Mee and Keane would do it for me.
Once Michael Keane moves on, I am sure Tarks will fill that space very admirably.

I'm not convinced by a Tarka Mee axis, and obviously neither is SD because whenever he's had the opportunity he's paired Tarka with Keane.

Or if Tarkowski is playing we might as well pair him with our best centre-half.ablueclaret wrote:I'm not convinced by a Tarka Mee axis, and obviously neither is SD because whenever he's had the opportunity he's paired Tarka with Keane.
Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
Dyche knows once Keanes gone Tarks will step right in. So much so that we're planning playing 1 at the back next season.

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
With 17 out of the 20 premier league sides adopting a 3 CHs system at any one time this season it is a bit puzzling why we haven't when it looks to be our strength.
Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
I don't get this obsession with Tarkowski. He's not the first and won't be the last player who signs for a club and has to bide his time. He's a talent, but if he is professional enough, he'll wait to grab his chance and run with it!

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
Think we will spend £10m on another centre back.
Personally I think there is a question mark over Tark's pace and after Keane has gone it could be we play him in a back 3 with a new pacey centre back.
One of the main reasons Keane is so valuable is his speed - he gets the rest of the defence out of trouble time and time again with his pace. Not seen many defenders beat Keane in a foot race.

Who are the other teams who haven't played it?
It's just the current fad, bit like the teams who played a 4-5-1/ 4-3-3 system.
Conte has made it work at Chelsea so other teams will think it's the best thing since sliced bread.
England will probably also implement it on a more permanent basis.

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
The 3 CHs are very competent in the premier league in my opinion which can't be said for the midfield 3 or strikers. The full backs have done alright but need the midfielders tracking back doing half their job.Sidney1st wrote:Why is it our strength?

The other two sides not to play it are Sunderland and Boro, I hope it's not a sign.

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
I am not so sure. You don't need pace to read a game. Tarkowski has been rather unfortunate in that our two centre halves have been exceptional. Slightly different players Keane and Tarkowski. But what I have seen of Tarkowski suggests he has an excellent football brain, that makes up for that yard of pace. I would still bring in another CH if Keane went but would have no issue with Tarks as a replacement.TVC15 wrote:Think we will spend £10m on another centre back.

According to sky sports news , Tarkowski's time on the bench is coming to an end!!

Actually I think it is West Brom and Southampton who have not played with 3 at the back, so don't think any signs

West Brom play with 4 CHs though don't they?
Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
the three were named on BBC football/sports, it does say that numerous other teams only played 3 at the back once.

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
Reason why Tarks hasn't had more game time is that we have had near ever presents from both Keane and Mee. Injuries and suspensions could have quickly change that. I recall a game at Millwall a few seasons back where we lost both CBs early in the game, one injury and one sending off - unless my memory is fading.ThinLizzy wrote:I am not so sure. When Michael Keane leaves we can expect Tarks to step up - but we will still need another "Premier League ready" CB in the squad and on the bench.
Re Michael Keane's speed - it's not a foot race I want Keane to win against other defenders, it's the foot race against the attackers he must win.

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
The thing is. We need players in midfeld who can read Tarkowski's game. He can do it, it's a building platform. Paul. If your defender is good enough. He doesn't need to run far. His awareness will judge that for him my friend.
Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
You seem pretty convinced that Tarks has this footballing brain to overcome any deficiencies in pace. What is this based on ?ThinLizzy wrote:The thing is. I don't know whether he has or not as not seen enough of him.
What I do know is that the strikers and midfielders he will play against in the Premier League are also pretty clever !
Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
Oh I don't know. I saw him make three Chelsea Interantionals and two Arsenal Internationals look silly in midfield. He has ability. Now. What do we do with a new player. What do we do? Spend £30 million on a replacement or go with Tarks. Based on what I've seen. Go with Tarks. We can bring in a replacement but I'll think you'll find he'll be fine.TVC15 wrote:You seem pretty convinced that Tarks has this footballing brain to overcome any deficiencies in pace. Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
Really ? We picked up 1 point from those 4 games and Tarks played how long in total - 10 mins ?ThinLizzy wrote:Oh I don't know. We will not be spending £30m on replacing Keane - I would not worry about that !
Just not sure what you have seen to formulate the high opinion you have of Tarks. He did not have great games in the cup versus Bristol City or Lincoln - it was Tarks who let his man peel off at back post from the corner which led to the goal.
I've seen glimpses of what looks a good player - and he does seem to have a good touch, skill and can spray a ball. But just not seen enough of him to tell how good he really is and whether he is good enough for Premier League. The defence this year is the main reason why we look like we are going to survive.
Anyhoo the only person whose opinion matters on this is Dyche and I am sure he is working out how we cope without Keane next season.
Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
If your main concern was Keane then thank F*ck I don't rely on you mate. My main concern of ALL positions was not putting Mee back at left back.
I don't know what you expect. We can't bring in Messi, Xavi etc. Yes I'd like more creativity, but give it a chance lad.

Time for Tarks to ply his trade elsewhere, just doesn't fit the framework.

Re: Tarks the bench-warmer
Unfortunately for Tarkowski, 3 into 2 doesn't go. And whilst we have 3 centre backs who would make sense as a back 3, we don't really have the rest of the players to make it work - in particular, the wide players to do the wing back bit.
He'll get his chance next season, when Keane inevitably departs. As someone else rightly points out above, there's still a slight question mark over his pace - ironically, I think there's a fair chance that one of the full backs will end up being the fall guy next season to enable Dyche to get somone (Andrew Robertson?) into the back 4 who does have a bit more pace to recover situations - and also over his decision making at times (for example, he gave the ball away far too much against Lincoln with attempted hollywood passes that were ill-judged, and it was one of our biggest problems on the day).
At the end of the day, he's a player who is proven in the Championship but unproven in the Premier League, and he's been missing out to two players who have firmly established themselves as proven Premier League performers. It isn't so difficult to explain.
