PRINCE..

Post by hampsteadclaret » Fri Apr 21, 2017 10:49 pm

- the pop/rock/soul/funk star died one year ago today...worth mentioning I think. A massive loss to lose one so talented at only 57.. I really did think he was a musical genius...his output was substantial.

This first link is from today's Guardian, an excellent article about what has been learned about Prince's life in the last 12 months;

Much of the Prince musical output has been taken down off YouTube, though there are bits and pieces on there..

This is 'Cream'..a pretty good version.

Wow, it was around the time as the Preston game, probably the same day... which seems ages ago now, but the death of Prince only seems months ago. Funny how memory plays tricks.

It is very difficult to find a decent link to this. I have no idea why but I check weekly as someone keeps shutting down the links.

Not his most popular, but I love this.

Heard today that he sent the 10 minute instrumental for Purple Rain to Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac asking her to put some lyrics to it - she turned him down because she said she was "scared" !

He wrote some amazing music and has to be up there with one of the best live performers in history.

He was no David Bowie though !!

Prince - 'I Wanna Be Your Lover'.. [ dancing only, no PRINCE available here]

"I Wanna Be Your Lover" is a song by American recording artist Prince. It was released on August 24, 1979 as the lead single from his second album, Prince. The song was Prince's first hit single in the United States, reaching number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart for two weeks. WIKI.

Over indulgent middle of the road rubbish that says absolutely nothing meaningful.

File alongside crap like Queen, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits & U2 that only serve to reflect the musical apathy and lack of originality within the mainstream and popular music of their time

Last one from me...you might have seen this before but it's worth putting the link up..

'While my guitar gently weeps'..Prince performs with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison [son of George] and others.

Prince solo is from 3 mins 28....the lad could play a guitar.

Don't take a nibble...

That guitar solo from the wee man was simply superb.

Purple rain always brings a smile to my face. Happy memories from when I was a young lad in a middle aged woman's world.

This has got me thinking about the great guitar solos of our time.

Off to start another thread, as prince deserves his own.

Agreed, he is revered as a singer/songwriter but he rarely gets mentioned when the great guitarists are spoken about.
