2 games to play, Blackburn are down I am sure

Post by KateR » Mon Apr 24, 2017 1:49 pm

A post title I do not expect to see but if I were a Blackburn fan I'd certainly be thinking/believing it.

I have to admit I have believed for quite a while they would not go, even up to Saturday actually (shows how much I know) but now with the results it is no longer just possible but probable, be a Houdini act to pull out of this I think.

and now its here I am not sure how I feel, not a team I hate, but have watched their results and the fall has been quite steady for sometime.

Big question for me is what the Chicken farmers will do, surely they are not ardent BB supports and probably not even football fans at all but for some reason they put money in. Advertising, status, I mean you would have to sell a lot of extra chickens to just recoup (see what I did there) the investment. Will they stay will they go, they've stripped probably as much as they can now, will they follow Blackpool, it's intriguing to watch though, and a couple of gloats here and there add spice to it all.

Villa may roll over, but Huddersfield are on a poor run of late, and I wouldn't bet against Harry winning his first game at home, and if he does that, Rovers are down IMO no matter what the score is v Villa.

Only problem is that Huddersfield are not yet 100% guaranteed a play off place.

They have to get something

Huddersfield have 3 to play and 5 points ahead of Leeds so you would say 90%+ for a play off place, they played Fulham Saturday who are the form team coming late in to the play offs Hope Leeds stay where they are in 7th.

This is Blackburn we're talking about. Historically, if there's any luck going round at all they'll get it.
I wouldn't bet against them staying up on goal diff with a dodgy decision going in their favour in injury time at Brentford. Maybe I'm just paranoid because of having to put up with it for so many years.
I'll only celebrate their demise when the last ball is kicked and they are still in the bottom 3.
Who'd have thought that we'd be relying on Birmingham and 'Arry to get some points.?

(Fingers crossed).

I won't get excited until it happens, if it happens.

If it does I'll be watching Jasper Carrott on youtube in joyous tears of laughter.

Yes, in an unprecedented step, Villa will drop their entire first team and replace them with fans in Saturday.

X-Factor style auditions will take place to choose the Villa fans who will play. They must combine a complete lack of football ability and an unwavering hatred of Birmingham.

I'm not arsed if they don't. I'd take a draw right now. Means Brum only need 1 win for safety, possibly only a point.

I just hope we get a win on the board as soon as, so we could all watch on and enjoy it that little bit more!

I'm going to put silly money on Rovers beating Villa, just to soften the blow.

Seeing Rovers fans in tears would be more valuable to me than a gold house.

Apparently Villa have sold 7,000 tickets for Saturday.

Can't imagine "rolling over", even if it pushes Birmingham closer to relegation will go down to well with most of them.

The worrying thing is that Redknapp has said he doesn't want paying from Brum if they go down. Could his dog get an income from elsewhere?

Could be a double whammy here. Will they be able to cope with both relegation and the potential cancellation of Elton John all in the space of a few weeks.?
Could it be "Written in the stars" ?

The 7,000 will be happier at losing and sending Brum down than winning and keeping them up.

Not a chance Steve Bruce will want his team to 'roll over' - he wants as many points and as high a league finish as possible. With a 7,000 backing, they might just nail down the lid on the bas turds coffin.

Oh, and we just need another 3 points (WBA or West Ham at home) to put light years between us and the scrubbers from down the M65.

What a reight good do. NNN UTC.

Ok, I concede that every single Villa fan will be willing their team to lose. It must be true because it says so there.

It still doesn't really counter the argument that the Villa players may care little for Birmingham's fate and have their own win and goal bonuses plus potentially contracts for next year to play for.

One factor though could be Bruce's Birmingham connection - I don't recall the terms he left on but if he has a gripe with them could decide to blood a number of youngsters.

I'm sure said youngsters would still give it a go but would almost certainly still weaken them.

Birmingham were struggling in the league, and on 21 March 2006 were beaten 7–0 at home by Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals.[130] Some supporters of the club began to call for his resignation, but Bruce insisted that he would fight on as manager.[131] The team managed to climb out of the relegation zone for the first time in nearly six months after a win over Bolton Wanderers in early April 2006.[132] However, they were soon overtaken by Portsmouth, whose victory over Wigan Athletic on 29 April left Birmingham mathematically unable to match their points total and therefore relegated.[133]
Although Bruce had the largest transfer budget in the division made available to him,[134] Birmingham made a slow start to the 2006–07 season in the Championship and, after a 1–0 defeat at home to Norwich City, the team's fifth consecutive match without a win, there were calls from fans and local journalists for the manager to be sacked.[135][136] Bruce publicly accepted responsibility for the team's poor run and admitted that he feared for his job,[137] but the team responded with a 1–0 victory over Derby County,[138] and then recorded a further five consecutive league victories to be joint leaders of the league table by late November.[139][140] On 29 April 2007, Birmingham secured promotion to the Premier League, with one match to play, by virtue of Derby County's 2–0 defeat at Crystal Palace. Chairman David Gold told the press "There have been some dark days but Steve has been outstanding. He was determined to bounce back. He has rebuilt the team and now we are all back where we want to be."[141]
Wigan Athletic[edit]
In May 2007, Birmingham's board agreed a new contract for Bruce, but the unwillingness of the club's prospective purchaser Carson Yeung to ratify it left his future uncertain.[142] In October 2007, Bolton Wanderers were refused permission to speak to him about their managerial vacancy.[143] Later that month, Bruce and Yeung held a meeting which reportedly had positive results.[144] Bruce later claimed that Birmingham's managing director Karren Brady had "shafted" him on a new contract with the club,[145] and when Wigan Athletic requested permission to speak to Bruce about their managerial vacancy, he was receptive to their approach.[146] As required under the terms of his contract, Wigan agreed to pay Birmingham a then-world record compensation for the loss of his services of around £3m,[147] and they were then allowed to speak to him. On 19 November, Wigan announced the signing of Bruce for a second time.[148]
On 21 November, during a press conference which was intended to formally present Bruce as the new manager of Wigan, the club's chief executive Brenda Spencer informed the media that the deal had been put on hold by "unknown issues" between Bruce and Birmingham City, reported to centre on the advance payment of the image rights element of Bruce's contract at St Andrew's.[149][150] On 23 November 2007 Wigan announced that Bruce had now signed his contract and would officially rejoin the Latics.

Lets look at the full scenario. Rovers are 2 points behind but have a better goal difference therefore they need to get 2 points more than Brum to survive. So
If rovers get 6 points Brum also need 6 to stay up
If rovers get 4 points Brum need 3
If rovers get 3 points Brum need 2
If rovers get 2 points Brum need 1
If rovers get 1 point they are relegated.
My prediction is that Villa will roll over at Ewood and Huddersfield will beat Brum. Then Rovers will draw at Brentford and Brum will beat Brizzle. Then we will all have a stonking big party.

Can see b@st@rds getting at least a point against a Villa side who have struggled on the road this season, they have the worst away record of any team in the top half of the championship (W4 D6 L12).

On the other hand, if Villa get a point and both Forest and Brum win,
Venkys are relegated with a week to spare.

I agree. And I still think Rovers will stay up, by the skin of their teeth.

Rovers win/draw vs Villa
Birmingham draw/lose

but AV seem to have been better of late so I am taking that in to consideration, don't think AV will get beat, but could be all over this weekend or at least it goes to the last game, the great escape, will they will they not, love a mystery when its difficult to really predict/know the end :)

only home form has got better lately they have only played twice away since winning at Wigan Mar18 and Rotherham Mar 4th and then your back to December for an away win and that was QPR in the middle of a poor run, it has 1-1 written all over it IMO. the percentages/stats for both teams to score is quite good not the best for this weekend in the championship but not far off.

They're still favourites for the drop though, if things stay the same.
Forest at home to Ipswich next week, who'll surely be in their flip flops.

Venkys away at Brentford, who'll hopefully be looking to sign off
with a good show at home.
Not safe yet by any means.
