There's a guy who sits to the left of the steps (as we're looking at it), who seems to be there every year and almost every match. I think it's a Man City shirt he sometimes wears. I assume if you buy a ticket, you have the option to have the same seat 12 months later, as he surely isn't the fastest buying them every single time. The Enclosure wrote:Think that 146 took about 7 minutes...what a player....Has anyone noticed that balding middle aged guy who stands behind the snooker table behind the pundits.....i think he has been there in the same position every single day and every session .

Re: Snooker
Coventry fan he proposed to his wife at the crucible a few years back, Rob Walker introduced him and he came down the stairs and popped the question. Its on yt somewhere 'forgotten crucible moments' or sumet like that.
Re: Snooker
Hi FF I went last year for the first time and was slightly dubious about how it would be, but it is superb. It's a small place so you have a good view from any seat, especially with the two table setup (I was near the front last year and a bit further back this time). I've no doubts that watching that Selby break in person makes you appreciate the skill involved so much more than watching on the TV. You can always buy a ear piece for some commentary but it's not needed. So yeah worth going at least once If you're a big fan and then deciding from there, I can safely say I'm going again next yearFactualFrank wrote:StanBFC how would you compare being at the Crucible vs watching it on TV? Even though I only live about 40 minutes away, I'm yet to go, but fancy it for the experience. I've been to see the Premier League darts and other than the atmosphere, I found it actually better on tv as you get all the better angles and replays.

Re: Snooker
Ah right, it looked a bit like an old City top when I had a look. It still begs the question (for me), how he manages to get so close every year. I thought it was first come, first served, but it can't be, otherwise he wouldn't always get the same seat.Rodneyyouplonker wrote:Coventry fan he proposed to his wife at the crucible a few years back, Rob Walker introduced him and he came down the stairs and popped the question. Re: Snooker
I thought Ding played very well, it should be a cracker vs Selby if he can keep his nerve like he did this match.
Re: Snooker
Ding is playing well, but Selby's was near perfect in his game, can't see anything but a Higgins Selby's final, where JH will push him hard but Selby's taking it. MS could go on and get near Henrys record, which in this era would be amazing.

Ding is playing well but as I said previously he has been very fortunate with his errors/kicks tending to fall safe. Would like to see him win but Selby looks in awesome form.

Re: Snooker
As an aside I'm not a fine of Willie Thorne commentating.
In the first instance why is he called 'Mr Maximum' when he only made about two 147's in a 30 year career. It took him 19 seasons to record 100 century breaks.
He also has an annoying trait of uttering the word 'check side' at least 15 times on every frame he commentates on.
I honestly believe that with 6 months daily practice on my Rex Williams endorsed 6ft Guinness plywood snooker table I could have 'done' Thorne at his pomp over 9 frames.
Other than that he seems a decent bloke I suppose.

Agreed about Willie Thorne calls the wrong shot a lot aswel, bit of a perv by all accounts my mate and his mrs met him and he was staring at her knockers all night apparently, mind you she does have a nice rack.

Re: Snooker
Just checked this on Wikipedia and it amazed me but only 3 people have successfully defended a world championship in the 40 years it's been at the Crucible - Davis three times, Hendry four times and O'Sullivan once. Hopefully it'll become four.

The look on Selby's face at end of session says it all, he was expecting to wipe the floor with ding, not over by a long way yet though.

You have to be pretty special if you think Selby's the type to expect to wipe the floor with someone as good as Ding.

Ding's looking superb here, as confident as I've seen him at the Crucible.
Selby making a few errors now after trying to bore Ding to death in the last frame.

Re: Snooker
10-9 now after Selby fluffs his chance to make it 11-8.
And Ding is off again with a long pot.
Edit - Oh no he isn't (misses black).

I hope Ding pings him.
I find Mark Selby incredibly devoid of personality. How he has the brass neck to call himself "The Jester" is a mystery.

Re: Snooker
Selbys safety game has been poor yet hes still beating Ding by 2 frames and Ding is on top of his game.
Re: Snooker
Anyone know how it ended tonight? Saw it at 12-12, I missed the final 2 scheduled frames of the night.

The last session was without doubt the greatest set of frames I have witnessed. Ding was absolutely awesome. Willing to take risks in such a game shows the mark of the man to me. He really does look something special.

Ding all the way, it's his time. Other semi are playing, and not very convincingly from what I saw, for the runners up spot.

Re: Snooker
Higgins can do that though. He can be average yet keep winning frames. His game with Hawkins has been overlooked, but it wouldn't surprise me if Higgins went through and won the final.SkiptonClaret wrote:Ding all the way, it's his time. I do want Ding to win though. It's often nice for somebody to win it who's never done so before.

Re: Snooker
I wouldn't be too surprised to see Selby beat Higgins with a session to spare. Higgins isn't anything close to his best and doesn't look like re-producing his form against Mark Allen in the Last 16. He was lucky aginst Wilson who ****** his tip up, and lucky against Hawkins who was awful.
11-6 or 12-5 overnight to Selby and he could be crowned champion tomorrow afternoon.

Well, Selby won't be having either of those leads over night.
9 frames tonight so he'll be wanting 6-3 in the session.

Re: Snooker
One thing I have noticed about Selby...he plays better and seems to concentrate better when he is behind...for me though higgins is one of the best all round players ever...brilliant tactician and break builder....Selby needs top gear pretty quick...5 4 tonight for Selby...10-7 overnight and it should be a great final day tomorrow...utc.
