Post Brexit free trade deal for UK
This may upset some on here, but it looks like another one of the referendum scare stories is going to be debunked

Re: Post Brexit free trade deal for UK
Er, no, it is excellent news if true.
Course, we've also had Merkel saying that we can't expect the same benefits as EU members (which is only common sense, but something that Vote Leave didn't actually admit to) and an intriguing possibility that all 27 sovereign governments could have a vote on the final brexit deal.
Bit of balance and all that, but if the free trade deal is true, then that is excellent news.

Re: Post Brexit free trade deal for UK
FTA's in and of themselves provide a theoretical bilateral economic advantage; whether it is helpful for the UK in reality or indeed who it benefits within the UK will depend on the terms of the agreement and the kind of concessions-the very nature of trade deals-that are made, (anyone remember TTIP? Anyone remember ol' Nige's stance on it?), but it's curious that a not-insignificant number of leave voters whose vote was an expression of resentment and protest at their communities being left behind by globalisation seem to welcome these stories.

Yep, it's good news although if free movement of people is one of the conditions I guess you lads won't be as pleased?
Will be interesting to see what the negotiators come up with.

Would give very little credence personally to pro-Brexit articles appearing in either the Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail or Daily Express. These papers only tend to publish the stories with a positive Brexit slant that their readers want to read and believe.
The speech by Angela Merkel will probably be ignored completely by the above publications or given scant coverage.
Best wait until the talks really start when we may have a better idea of the direction of travel.

To be fair I doubt that they would say this before entering negotiations. Sounds like someone may have been speaking a little out of rank in their lines. It would be as daft as us saying "we must stay in your free market at all costs" ...you know, like Labour do.Damo wrote:This may upset some on here, but it looks like another one of the referendum scare stories is going to be debunked

The shitlers who are loudest about their support for brexit genuinely think those of us who wanted to remain want the very worst for Britain. They can't get around the fact that we want the best for Britain too. They honestly think we hate this country and that they're the only patriots.Lancasterclaret wrote:Er, no, it is excellent news if true.

I do think a good amount of SNP independence voters want the worst for England though.

Re: Post Brexit free trade deal for UK
Have so many forgotten the way that the EU has dealt with Greece? I voted out because;
(1) I do not want us to be dictated to by a certain peoples that have always only had their own interessen at heart,
(2) I am ashamed at the way Greece has been treated,
(3) I was just too young to vote when we joined the 'Common Market' & didn't agree with the principal at the time,
(4) It really doesn't make any sense that all member nations can possibly benefit from membership,
(5) The internal machinations of the EU are, I believe, primarily set up to mislead & cover any decision making process. Transparency comes through simplicity - the EU could never be simple
(6) We have systematically demolished our industries - these could never be rebuilt if we remained in the EU.
There are more, nitty gritty personal reasons, but I can assure you that movement of people across the borders are none of those (to debunk the stereotype fielded by the re-moo-ners (just keep your heads down & feed on the cud).
It is most probably all incidental in any case, as I fully believe that the bolts have been spat out & the wheels will come careering off as nations fling themselves onto the hard shoulder of the autobahn.
Stop whingeing & just get on with it!!!
