Re: Snooker
Selby is probably the best player around at coming back when a few frames down. That's probably why the bookies have similar odds for both players, even though Higgins is 3 clear. I'd prefer Higgins to win though.
Re: Snooker
Selby has so many people praying for him to lose every time he plays, its quite strange really.

Re: Snooker
Wanting Higgins to win does not = wanting Selby to lose every time he plays. It's only strange to you because it's different to what you want. Not everybody will agree and want the same things as you.
Re: Snooker
I wasn't talking about you, I'm talking about snooker fans in general, not many seem to like Selby.FactualFrank wrote:Wanting Higgins to win does not = wanting Selby to lose every time he plays. Re: Snooker
He's the current number 1 and a lot of people prefer to support the underdog. But he's getting the run of the ball this session and expect he'll pin Higgins back and then go on to win.

Yeah I guess so, yeah id expect him to beat Higgins.FactualFrank wrote:He's the current number 1 and a lot of people prefer to support the underdog. But he's getting the run of the ball this session and expect he'll pin Higgins back and then go on to win.

Re: Snooker
The World Championship getting very interesting now...Selby has just won the 21st frame [45 minutes] to make it 11-10 to Higgins [first to 17].
- seems to be quite a lot of anti-Selby on here..not sure why, he seems a decent enough chap.
I hope he wins it,.. Higgins has won about 4 times previously hasn't he..?

I love how Selby pisses off people with his grit and determination. 1 behind now. Hopefully he'll win it from here.

Re: Snooker
nice to enjoy a final with no preference for either player. May the best man win.
Feel there is anti-Selby feeling because folk have got used to faster frames and he's a throwback to the 70s. What a professional though.

Re: Snooker
KRBFC, you're on about finding it very strange that people want Selby to lose, yet at the same time you're making it clear that you're anti-o'sullivan, who is quite clearly the best to ever play the game.

Now 11-11..Selby gets level...won 7 out of the last 8 frames.

Clearly the best ever? Really? I don't think that's clear at all.

Re: Snooker
O'sullivan is definitely in the top 5 greatest ever players, and in my opinion has produced the single greatest tournament of snooker at the world championships in 2004, but snooker isn't just about raw talent. He falls way short in other departments that means he's still behind Davis and Hendry.FactualFrank wrote:KRBFC, you're on about finding it very strange that people want Selby to lose, yet at the same time you're making it clear that you're anti-o'sullivan, who is quite clearly the best to ever play the game.

Re: Snooker
Snooker is a strange game. Always a busy time of year for me but I have made a point of keeping up with this tournament catching a fair bit of late night play via the iplayer.
I find the standard of this current crop totally staggering. Ronnie played some superb stuff, but one bad session against Ding - when he looked like he couldn't be arsed - cost him, but this Selby chap is on another level in terms of concentration and precision. Davis just called him 'one of the best predators the game has ever seen,' which seems to sum up his style of play. Higgins looks shellshocked - having lost 9-1 over the last 10 frames. Hopefully Higgins can fight back from 13-11 down to even make a game of it, but Selby deserves respect. He's a phenomenal talent.

Re: Snooker
Selby leading now by 14-11 and Higgins looks out of it...he has missed a few opportunities, and his body language and general demeanour not very positive, I would say.
Re: Snooker
Not so much Higgins being out of sorts more like Selby looking unbeatable

Re: Snooker
If Selby goes on to win this he could dominate for years only Judd Trump and maybe Ding look like they can threaten Ronnie looks like he's lost interest again
Re: Snooker
I think Selby in his prime beats a Ronnie in his prime 8 times out of 10. Ronnie has the raw talent advantage for sure but he lacks behind Selby in so many other areas.

You don't have to like the style to appreciate the attributes required to pull it off successfully. But at the same time if it bores you then you're not as much of a fan of the game as someone who can be entertained by both O'Sullivan and Selby.

Its an absolute walk in the park, Higgins may as well throw his kilt in.

Can't see anything but a win for that donk from cheatsville.

True that to a point IT, not sure Selby provides entertainment though, Alex Higgins, White and O'Sullivan entertained, the others play snooker.

Selby has cheated in the past yes. However it was also a cross reference with his hometown football team, you know the ones who dive and get penalties?Imploding Turtle wrote:In a match between Selby and Higgins it's Selby you're calling a cheat?

It's like comparing Defour with Jones.

Re: Snooker
The problem is Ronnie's prime is like a drag racer but Selby's prime, Hendry's prime, Davis' prime are all Le Mans cars. So yes, i'll agree that Ronnie at his very best was better than anyone elses very best, but other players played at their best over the course of 4, 5, 6, 7 years whereas Ronnie can only do it very occassionally and often for only a tournament.Right_winger wrote:Not a chance, Ronnie in his prime would demolish anyone.

Re: Snooker
No modern day snooker player provides entertainment, they play snooker. The money involved has stopped the showmanship and acting daft. Possibly you meant entertainment in the actual snooker, I think all top level players provide that when matched against each other. I guess people find different things entertaining though. I prefer watching an elite level safety battle followed by a clearance over a 6 minute one visit frame. I could also take your point and flip its on its head and say Dyche's style isn't entertaining but lets not stray to far off topic.MrTopTier wrote:True that to a point IT, not sure Selby provides entertainment though, Alex Higgins, White and O'Sullivan entertained, the others play snooker.

Ronnie is/was a maverick. Was he not ranked like the 7th best player in the world cack handed at one point aswell?Imploding Turtle wrote:The problem is Ronnie's prime is like a drag racer but Selby's prime, Hendry's prime, Davis' prime are all Le Mans cars. Hendry was very good at everything especially long pots and steady break building, but on his day Ronnie could rattle in huge breaks and have opponents 5 and 6 frames down in jig time.
I do however agree with your analysis
Re: Snooker
Higgins on the comeback, maybe its not over just yet. Hopefully we see a cracker and Selby takes it in a final frame shootout.
Re: Snooker
That black could swing it in Higgins' way massively.

Re: Snooker
Shame, because you can definitely see the black move on two different angles. I don't agree with Parrott's judgement that it only looks to move because of the light reflecting.
But it's done now and now we've got a cracking final few frames to come.
