Its a modern love story in a cliched whirlpool of northerness. Mums, grannies, Debbie at work and you lot will adore the show.
its passes the time tv, nothing more, nothing less.

Gently amusing in the vein of 50's humour, nothing much happens, but it doesn't need to.

Only seen episode 1/4 so far but the bit where they made a video remix of him in the car having a go at the cyclist, made me laugh.

I saw all 4 back to back in a charity preview in Blackpool couple of weeks ago with Peter Kay there and the girl who plays Kayleigh- without giving anything away episode 4 definitely leaves you hanging and wanting to see more so watch this space maybe ..........?

I guess it's going to ultimately end with them both getting together, however if/when that does happen, that's likely to be the end of the programme. Viewing figures will no doubt dictate when that will be.

I guess humour is subjective. I don't mind Peter Kay, but I find his humour somewhat tiresome. He seems to wear out the same gags. I watched the third episode expecting great hilarity. I found myself not amused at all.
It's a shame as the bloke clearly has talent and his observational skills are top notch. It just doesn't amuse me.
It's about on a par with Benidorm in being at best, mildly amusing and can raise a wry smile. But. Each to their own.

only kidding, i actually enjoyed it. First series was very good, hadn't realised the second was available. Both very talented, and its a great "vehicle" for a comedy.

The second episode dragged a bit I thought (I must admit I thought the same about the first episode if I'm honest). It sometimes works when they bring other characters in but I thought the Smurf wasn't particularly amusing at all - just annoying. It worked in Series One when they had the fishmonger guy in the car with them - that was brilliant - but it missed the target last night I think.
Can't he just bring back Phoenix Nights and be done with it!! ".. come and get your black bin bags, they're on offer till December.."

Doesn't that depend on how many of the others are actually still talking to him? I thought he had fallen out with the other two writers, Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice (I think that's his name?), but don't know if that is true?

Didn't they all get together to do Phoenix Nights Live the other year for Comic Relief? I thought the old wounds had healed!! Hopefully they have - it would be great to see where those characters ended up 15 years later!

Fair enough, I didn't realise. Yes, it would be nice to revisit it.
Can't believe it is so long since though

Huge fan but thought this weeks episode was very poor. Works when it is just the two main characters and within the confines of the car.
All the finest comedy works within a single location. MASH...inside the tents, Cheers...the bar, Taxi...the rank, Open All Hours...the shop, etc.
Wonder if a Bond film could be successful if it was within a single location? Would have to be a brilliant concept.

Yes they did - I went to see it and it was brilliant - one of the funniest live shows I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot !!)
All the old characters were there - only one who was missing was Den Perry as he had collapsed on the opening night and gone into hospital.

Keep your eyes open guys. There's funny sh1t going on in the background all the time.
as the Bury, Ratcliffe bus passes near the beginning of Ep2 read the sign spinning in the background.
And why does Tesco Express become Tecco Express? that one had me beat.

I think Peter Kay has taken this series as far as he can. Same format and he just blindly goes on with it. He needs sacking and replacing with better!

I am a fan of Peter Kay and think he is a great comic talent but I watched ep. 2 last night and to be honest was a bit disappointed and actually found it a little boring.
Raised the odd wry smile now and again (who hasn't had to give a lift home to a few popped up friends when you are sober as a judge) but don't really recall anything laugh out loud funny in the episode.
Maybe I'll have to watch it again and pay more attention to what's going on in the background as I clearly missed the things mentioned earlier on the thread.

In the vein of 'Gently Amusing' and that's rare. It's just bad. Of course humour is subjective. I found bits humorous, just as I do most, not all; other comedies. It's not the worst BBC comedy. Two Pints of Lager? I mean......really?!

I thought the same with episode 2, but watched watched episodes 3 and 4 last night and thought episode 3 especially was pretty damn funny.

How about Peter Kay does his next car share with Jackson Pollock, James Dean or Catherine Mansfield.

What was the thing with the smeared rear window - I assumed it was something to do with the logistics of filming. They used five cameras at the same time, apparently.

Just goes to show what's involved making something like that. By all accounts the production team and actors spent quite a while at Banny's on Trafalgar Street and unless you were looking for it you would barely notice the few seconds that made it into the final edit.

yeah its for continuity. they're going round in a car on the back of a low truck so they'd constantly have different people/cars in the background. probably get people waving and following them.
here's the inside of the car.

We tried watching it from the first series, but gave up after 3 episodes. It's really really bog-standard comedy.
I want laugh-a-minute, not half a smirk every 8 mins.
