Sharapova for Wimbledon?

Post by Im_not_Robbie_Blake » Wed May 03, 2017 9:14 am

Would it be good for the game if she was given a wildcard? Or would it be good for her but not good for tennis?

It's a bit of a shock that she's been allowed to play tennis again from the small amount of info I have about her years of cheating.

She took drugs for years, but they were legal for most of them - but when the drugs were put on the banned list, she forgot to stop taking them.

Most athletes take supplements, so they tell me. If they banned creatine, for example, which is widely taken, it wouldn't mean everyone who has ever taken it becomes a drug cheat - only those who would take it after the ban.

She has a big team of advisors all of whom failed to pick up that the particular drug had been added to the banned list which is presumably part of the reason why she employed them.

Not particularly condoning her but perhaps she was picked up more out of ignorance than deliberately cheating the drug system as they are tested all the time.

Was she cheating?
Yes and no.

They knew which drugs on the approved list would help her enhance her performance levels.

They bent the rules for as long as they could get away with it, that much is obvious.

To answer my own question.... although she has paid for her 'crime' I think it could set a precedent for cheats to get preferential treatment if she were to get a wildcard.

On that link, I like the way it shows a picture of Sharapova shaking hands with Murray with the caption starting "Murray (right) ...". I reckon if you need to be told which is Murray and which is Sharapova, you haven't been following the world of tennis closely enough to be interested.

It's "amazing" the number of athletes who have medical conditions which allow (or allowed) them to take certain drugs or supplements.

For example a much higher proportion of athletes seem to have asthma than the ordinarily population. Isn't that strange ?

I mean Sharapova looked such a picture of health - but all along she needed medication to drag her off her sick bed and run around screaming for 3 hours a day. Poor poor little girl.

She definitely deserves a wild card - she's been off for 2 years whilst all the legitimate athletes have been playing so surely it's fair that she has a turn now whilst someone much less famous and marketable drops out for no good reason - presumably they'll decide who drops out based on how ugly they are which seems very reasonable.

Perhaps TVC15 we could drop all the pretence and bullshit and just get her to play naked.

If she's good enough she'd qualify anyway so let her go through quallies

Watched a documentary regards the medicine athletes use for asthma. It is basically speed x 10. This is why hardly any athlete can legally take it as it is only the most severe cases which are allowed.

It also stated that 90% of asthma sufferers whom are athletes are wrongly diagnosed on purpose with asthma. It is a tactic coaches use with up and coming athletes to enable them to have a edge not just in the present but in the future. The majority of athletes featured in this doc had been having it since a young age which made it harder for governing bodies to rule out that they didn't actually have asthma.
