Frankie Valli..[the Jersey Boys]

Post by hampsteadclaret » Wed May 03, 2017 4:52 pm

Frankie Valli is 83 years old today, and worth a mention for his musical output in the last 50+ years...frontman of the Four Seasons, beginning in 1960....any fans out there..contribute if you wish.

'Jersey Boys' is a 2005 jukebox musical with music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe, and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. It is presented in a documentary-style format that dramatizes the formation, success and eventual break-up of the 1960s rock 'n roll group The Four Seasons....it has been a massive success in the West End of London recently.

Valli scored 29 Top 40 hits with The Four Seasons, one Top 40 hit under The Four Seasons alias The Wonder Who?, and nine Top 40 hits as a solo artist. As a member of The Four Seasons, Valli's number-one hits included "Sherry" (1962), "Big Girls Don't Cry" (1962), "Walk Like a Man" (1963), "Rag Doll" (1964) and "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" (1975). Valli's recording of the song "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" reached number two in 1967. "You're Ready Now", a Valli solo recording from 1966, became a surprise hit in the UK as part of the Northern soul scene and hit number eleven on the British pop charts in December 1970. As a solo artist, Valli scored number-one hits with the songs "My Eyes Adored You" (1974) and "Grease" (1978). WIKI

Frankie for health reasons, is singing backing vocals on this one..

I suppose the more obvious Northern Soul track which I can't see you have mentioned is The Night which had a couple of different mixes depending on which country it was issued in.

Hello Corky...yes, some of the OP I have quoted from WIKI [paragraph 3] and I don't know why they didn't mention 'The Night' 'cos as you suggest, it was a big Northern Soul/dancefloor success, back then and popular in the Rose Room at that time...as you say there are plenty of versions out there [one awful one] and some live ones including footage from Wigan Casino ...this one is the most familiar to me.

He was on at the MEN last Thursday night. My cousin went and said he was absolutely brilliant. 2 hours and 29 hits surrounded by long serving musicians and backing singers. So sorry I missed it. For me a bit like The Four Tops and The Supremes as I can't think of a poor song he did.

"Walk Like a Man" was something like the third record I ever bought.

Don't think former member, Tommy De Vito, was the most reliable amongst them either.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40bTOCv3_ak" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This Big Girls Don't Cry vid is one of my favourites, in terms of the gangster staging and the cinematography, as some kind of implied mobster conceit and that this was a recording of musical anthropology of a type, riding upon the dark hose of the pyradmical perspective facilitation, form-as-pyramid projection, as if looking vertical down on a pyramid, but across space, perhaps diamond shaped for it going on at the other side (as if.)
