Leeds based fans

Post by Colburn_Claret » Fri May 05, 2017 8:08 pm

Looking for some help.
I'm taking my daughter to her friends in Leeds after the match. The route planner suggested going down to the M62 and across, 59 miles and just over an hour!!!
It looks a hell of a lot quicker or shorter through either Hebden Bridge or Tod.
Any advice on which route is likely to be quickest would be appreciated. Thanks.

Whereabouts in Leeds?

I use the M62 for South leeds. It is longer way round but as it's motorway you make good speed.

The road through Tod and Hebden can be torturously slow.

Near the end of the M621, close to the A61 for a quick route back to the M1.

I live in Menston, 10 miles from Leeds City centre. I go over the Moss, through Cowling, over Bingley Moor. I get home in 45 minutes after home games.

I always go the Tod /Hebden bridge way, maybe not the quickest but if your not in a rush can be a much more relaxed drive

It may look quicker to take the Tod/Hebden route, but there are three sets of roadworks down the valley which may cause additional delay. There's also another set due to start any time in Mytholmroyd.

Just depends on the volume of traffic using the A646.

Wrong side Jd. It's definitely southside.
The route planner says going through Hebden or Tod take you back to the M62 along the A646. On another day I'd take my time and enjoy the scenery, but I have things I have to get home for and time is of the essence.
Cheers

As someone who's done both route options 100s of times, I can factually say that M66 > M62 > M1 is quicker than going through Hebden Bridge, by around 10 minutes. But it's also a more boring drive.

Thanks for all the advice, but I've decided to take the longer route and hoof it.
Fingers crossed.

I live in East Leeds. It's a lot quicker on the motorway than any other route for me

I agree with FF. My family live in Waterfoot so usually I travel back in that direction and stop off before getting onto the M66 at Rawtenstall. For the last home game they were on holiday so I thought I'd try a more 'scenic' route via Tod and Heben Bridge but it took about the same time if not longer and it felt like I was trundling along the whole time. A pretty tortuous journey. Definitely better to get on the motorway at Rawtenstall.

Is there petrol rationing in the NE?
Tell her to drive herself. You're past Dads taxi now.

Matt has borrowed his Mams car, she's borrowed mine, so we're using Beckys. I have to get to Ripon for a celebratory brew or two, so no choice.
Beckys getting a lift back with the girls.

Would go hebden way or even a59 for simple reason if motorway backs up on m62 which is more often than not youre snookered. At least if normal roads back up there are alternatives and rat runs etc.

Definitely M66 M62 for the quickest route. It is a lot further but an average speed of 60+ mph as opposed to 25 soon makes up the difference. The hebden route is deceptively slow...

The M62 is usually as sound as a pound on Saturdays and Sundays.

Edit - if you also park on the Todmorden Road side of the ground you get a pretty speedy exit.

Parts of Leeds are very nice and would probably be very pleasant to live in; Headingley etc. But can you imagine seeing Leeds fans every day.

When they're consistently below us in the league, owned by a nutjob and hiring/ firing managers on a monthly basis, believe me, it's good fun.

Throw in their late-season implosion this year and it's brilliant.

I take your point, TheFamilyCat. If I still lived in Skipton, I'd be enjoying myself. But the town is 50 per cent Burnley, so there's back-up.
