Can't win without Russia's help - French Election

Post by Imploding Turtle » Sat May 06, 2017 4:25 am

It must feel pretty **** being a far-right winger and knowing that the only possible way you can get your favourite political racist elected is with the help of Vladimir Putin.

Obviously it worked spectacularly in the U.S., but I don't think it's going to be enough for Le Pen to overcome a +20 point deficit in France's run-off election.

Le Pen's support is mainly in areas with a large immigrant influx of folk from elsewhere. That MEANS SOMETHING. Just to negatively dismiss that as 'racist' shows a degree of ignorance of the world, every bit as much as the perceived ignorance of those critiqued.

I don't think that's factually accurate.Do you have any stats / maps / charts to support this?
All the evidence I've seen is that support for the FN is at its lowest in the cities - (i.e. where most of the immigration is).
North East France (e.g.) is where support is greatest for the FN, but in Lille (the largest city in the region with a large immigrant community), support for the FN is about 20% lower than elsewhere in the region.
Paris, (one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world) has one of the lowest percentages of FN vote. (4.9%), whereas there has been a surge of support for the FN in Rural areas.

I must have seen a different map to you. It was on the BBC website a few weeks back. However one would expect areas with a large immigrant population to vote against Le pen, but on the other hand look at Burnley with a 66% Leave vote. It could be that the immigrants themselves don't want any more immigrants in their area, stealing their trade.

Some good maps showing relative areas of support on this link

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/macro ... en-second/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No real indicator that areas of heavy immigration voted Le Pen; in fact, her vote actually fell in Paris.

It appears that low educational attainment and low economic activity were stronger factors.

Funny how these people always have so much to hide considering they are meant to be the good guys.

Or could it be that immigrants locally (mainly of Asian heritage),would like to see less immigration from the EU, thus facilitating more immigration from outside the EU.
India (e.g.) have already suggested that part of trade deal with them might involve freedom of movement.

You've nothing to fear if you've nothing to hide, the same goes for crooked Hilary, if they aren't up to no good they're wouldn't be anything worth leaking.

Clearly true, but it depends how much of it - if any - is genuine (true) and how much is just made up (fake).

So Le Pen voters are idiots? Well bugger me. Who could have possible guessed that far-right supporters were more stupid than the rest of us? (without talking to one)

The 'Capitalism in Action' thread is the one you want. While you're there feel free to complain about call centre jobs going to India and manufacturing jobs to China, Bangladesh, etc. I bet that's fine though because the boogyman EU isn't involved there.

Oh yeah, i almost forgot. The EU is absolutely crushing European manufacturing through regulations that say we're not allowed to basically enslave people in low paying, dangerous jobs for 14 hours/day 7 days/week without breaks.

Good news though, now that we're leaving the Tories can get to work on those pesky workers' rights laws.

That's the difference between me and you, i can criticise organisations that i support when they deserve criticism. On the other hand though you can't praise organisations you oppose and you'll believe literally anything negative that's said about them without qualification. For example, i'm willing to bet you think that the EU is undemocratic, like most brexiters seem to believe because that's what their Dear Leader told them. You probably think that being in the EU means we can't deport European citizens, because that's what you were told by the only people you are willing to listen to on the topic; people with whom you agree. I'm also wondering if you still think the EU are banning straight bananas and curved cucumbers. I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

Find something about the EU to criticise that i'll agree with you about, and i'll criticise them with you.

The problem is our set of values are probably different. The things i could criticise the EU for are probably some of the things you like about it. Likewise the things you criticise the EU for are some of the things i like about the EU. This is assuming your criticisms aren't bullshit myths you believe because it was in the Daily Mail or The Sun.

If you can't criticise them because of your political beliefs then it's a poor do.
