If Noble was at his peak now and fit as per the modern game, I think he'd be in our first team, along with Casper, James, Dobson and maybe Newton from the 1972-75 side.

A wonderful player...very sad to learn of this news. Anyone else remember Uwe rattling in an absolute screamer at the Bee Hole End v, I think, Leicester in the first game of a season (late 70s I'd say) ? Disallowed , ridiculously, for someone being offside even though no keeper on earth could have stopped it. At least that's how I remember it.

Totally shocked by this. In my piece about why I loved Burnley Football Club, I mentioned that when I was taken to meet some of the Claret greats, the first place we stopped was the appliance store where Peter worked in the off-season. Two things struck me. One. How incredibly fit he was, even at an older age for a football player. Two. What a true gentleman he was. Burnley will seldom see his like again, if ever. R.I.P. Peter. You were truly a great, in all facets of life.

As delighted as I am with how things turned out today, I am still gutted at this news. The guy was first class. As both a footballer, and as a bloke.

I hope as many Burnley fans as possible turn out for his funeral. He deserves as so much respect.

very sad news indeed, the names of may of our ex players seem so familiar to fans, more so when they have had lenghty connections with the town as Peter did with his market stall. He was a firm favourite with the Clarets, and rightly so.

That's a lovely tribute Tony. My early memories of being a Burnley fan are enriched by recollections of the great Peter Noble.

My Dad had to tell me why we shouted UWE UVE UVE. Until then I thought it was spelt OOVAY.

Opening day 1978/79 - corner on the left taken by Kindon, Leicester cleared but only as far as Uwe who hammered it home. Kindon, still out on the left wing, was ridiculously flagged offside.

There's a thread on a Sunderland board, runs to three pages in tribute. He's remembered up there as well, even though he never played for them.

Check the picture on page 3 - fourth from the left on the back row - I certainly wouldn't have recognised him!

Some great memories of Peter. I saw the vast majority of all his Burnley games. Anyone remember the player we signed on the same day we signed Peter? He was called Tommy Walker and we got him from Stoke. He never made a 1st team appearance for us and ended up at Yeovil.
