Worsley Cup

Post by Elder statesman » Sun May 07, 2017 7:16 pm

Been watching Nelson all my life. Today I witnessed the best innings in my lifetime. Devon Conway made 231 not out in Nelson's total of 354. The highest innings by any Nelson batsman in history and the highest ever by any batsman in the Worsley cup. And the sun shone. A great weekend all round.

Yeah but come on, you were only playing Rishton!

Agree Pete, not the strongest team but we play them every year and this has never happened before and don't want to take anything away from Devon and it's not every week us Nelson fans have something to shout about. And as most of the Rishton fans support Blackburn, we had a double celebration.

Another win for the mighty Colne! A convincing (ish) 1-wicket win at Haslingden with almost 2 overs to spare. Easy. :D

Despite their win, I shouldn't particularly have fancied being part of the East Lancs contingent having to turn up at Liverpool Road,to face Lowerhouse..

Having said that, I'm sure that the regular followers of the 'House, such as Mr Ashworth, would have been far too gentlemanly and considerate to even mention affairs at Griffin Park !! ;) ;)

Church won a tied game by losing fewer wickets than Enfield, sounds like a nail-biter

Not quite like it used to be! This afternoon the social club was mainly filled by Rishton Clarets celebrating an excellent weekend! ☺☺☺

Meanwhile Great Harwood - or, indeed, 'Snuffy 'Arrod' - surrendered so tamely away at Todmorden as to indicate an exclusive priority of league survival for this season.

Batting first, they sank to 1-3 inside the first few overs and in the end mustered a mere 116, which the hosts proceeded to knock off with the loss of only two wickets and with half their overs left.

Still, 'twas a pleasant day in nice surroundings enhanced by the presence of several lovely local ladies and of course by that wonderful generally appreciated news from Bristol and Nottingham.

Yet here's hoping for a better league version of the match in a few weeks' time.

A couple more pics here of what is indeed a particularly picturesque setting.

And you can say you were there to witness his total go up, whilst Rovers went down. Must have capped off an excellent weekend's sport.

That is one hell of an achievement by Devon Conway.

Redbeard - some great photos which hint at why Centre Vale is considered to be one of the nicest cricket grounds in the world. The view from the pavilion to the hills across is magnificent, makes me homesick but, there again, I am biased.
Thanks for the reminders.
