The histrionics of klopp the other night.. Mouriniho... Wenger... Guardiola....the ex boro manager. Who cares. There's only pochetino and the chap at Southampton who show any class, along with conte. Martin keown asked could conte manage burnley? Being continental he should be able to,but he wouldn't win the league.put sd in charge of Chelsea could he win the league probably.and he's English !

But there's a reason Conte is managing Chelsea and Dyche isn't and it has nothing to do with one being English. English managers in general are just miles behind the foreign coaches currently, similar to the English players being miles behind other big nations.tim_noone wrote:The histrionics of klopp the other night.. Conte could be the manager of Rochdale if he so wished.
But would he entice the best players to play for a pittance ?
Discrimination card should be played...
At least one English coach should be interviewed for the vacant position of manager/coach at a top premier league club.

I reckon it's a bit of both. Lack of opportunity + (perhaps perceived) lack of ability.

You say they're behind but the likes of BFS have been using Sports science for a long time now, something most people tend to ignore.KRBFC wrote:But there's a reason Conte is managing Chelsea and Dyche isn't and it has nothing to do with one being English. Some of Dyche's training ideas etc probably aren't that much different to those in Europe.
I do think English managers should go abroad for work though like European managers tend to do.

"It's sexy to have a foreign manager," said Redknapp. "Owners think he was so and so, or he played for him, he managed this club when, in reality, they are no better than what our lads are.
"It's my honest belief that if you put Sean Dyche in charge of a top six club, they will still be in the top six. If you put any of the top six managers down at Burnley, they won't do any better than what he's done."
Harry ' Shush up ' . He's ours.

They're an absolute mile behind overall though, Dyche BFS and Howe is the best it gets, not the most appealing list for a top club.Sidney1st wrote:You say they're behind but the likes of BFS have been using Sports science for a long time now, something most people tend to ignore.

its no coincidence foreign managers succeed, most of the homegrown ones thesedays are sort of plodders, journeymen coaches.
Pulis, Allerdyce, Hughes, that type. ok to keep a team relatively safe, but nobody really requires their services at the top clubs anymore.

This has not been bad - round in circles a bit at times but interesting - Interesting bit from Henry Winter who pushed Sean at a foreign owner of a mid prem team when asked advice on who to look at for a new manager - essentially got laughed at (this was a couple of years ago)

It probably doesn't help that English managers tend to not travel well.
Neville, Mclaren, Tony Adams are the most recent 3 I can think of.
Yes McLaren got a title over in Holland, but he couldn't take that form to Germany, or back over here again.
Bobby Robson and Hodgson are the only two I can think of who've had any real success abroad and are well respected outside of England.
English Players don't move abroad enough either, and this is probably also part of the problem.

I think, we believe our own hype, when the rest of the football world don't really see us as good as we believe. It's the reason why hardly any big named English players go over to foreign leagues. Sure, a few exceptions, but even close to half as what come over here from other leagues.
We're simply not good enough. The national team's lack of success speaks volumes.

Re: Will an English manager ever win the Premier League R5 7:30pm Tues
The main reason English players don't travel well is the language barrier. Very few English people speak more than their native English (and some of them seem to struggle with that) and most of us hated all the foreign language lessons we were forced to take at school. Contrast that to most foreign countries right across the planet where English is almost always a compulsory part of the curriculum from early infant school right through to senior school graduation.
Another reason is probably the pressing framework used in the Premier League due to the almost instantaneous requirement for success (whatever the level of club) for the vast majority of club owners. The sheer speed and physicality of the PL is detrimental to the skill set sought by most top foreign clubs.
