Reported in the Belgium press that Defour will stay if SD goes and that he will leave if SD stays.

So surprised not to see a rash of posts on this and how he is our best player and must stay next season, SD out!!

Or is it that because we are safe now, that those who continually posted about him "having" to be in the side and that SD was clueless really recognize that SD actually knew what he was doing. Not fishing am generally curious about this as many believe Defour will leave, me included.

Quality player make no mistake, but if what has been reported is true he'd better pack his bags.

That sort of behaviour is not welcome at Burnley FC.

I'd be surprised if he was here next season. His fitness is obviously an issue and he clearly isn't offering what Dyche wants him to otherwise a player of his talent would be in the team every week.

Not sure if it's true. I would hope that there is a more regular start for Defour next season, but at the same time Westwood and Hendrick have done well. SD likes to show loyalty to those who are delivering the goods, and as much as I like Defours style, his legs look shot even when he's walking.
If it is true, it's no contest. I'd pay for his ticket to China myself rather than lose SD.

Some might think it is a waste of £8m. I don't now we have stayed up. It was a gamble, it did not work out for him. We needed Joey for a few weeks and then Westwood has stepped up nicely. To me the issue was signing someone with class in midfield to settle the nerves after a pathetic attempt last time. It started well and got us all excited. In the end we are staying up so who cares?

Just found this story online quoting the Belgian sourced news story.
If true, best get rid. It's exactly as this story concludes: " Defour isn’t going to win a Burnley battle against Sean Dyche, and the manager is unlikely to leave the club this summer."

Why do we always get people on here saying 'fitness is an issue' or 'his legs have gone' (If he's over 30) every time SD doesn't pick a player on a regular basis.

Bit of a shame as I think he's very good but if it's between him and Dyche the outcome is very clear and an easy decision to make.

To progress we need to be able to accommodate more flair. Having said that Dyche has done an excellent job to date and a shame we havnt seen more of Defour as he's the classiest player we have.

I think everyone expects him to leave. Never going to fit in a Dyche side.

Shame as we don't have many footballers in the side that you would pay to watch on their own. In fact we probably don't have any.

Very good player, sorry we didn't see more of him but ultimately we achieved our aim this season so have to be happy with Dyche's decisions.

Would hope to recoup the fee when he leaves this Summer but that is probably unlikely if he's putting stuff like this out in the public.

Best thing would be to get Idrissa Doumbia in a swap deal with Anderlecht. Or if we feel like being cheeky Emmanuel Adjei.

I had said he was headed to China which he wanted by all accounts but her indoors wants a return home

We should be looking to upgrade our manager this summer anyway and get someone who can take us to the next level but will be an added bonus if it means we can keep our star player and finally see him used properly next season

Sean Dyche has got to stay. What's the point of keeping us in the Premier League and not staying to demonstrate that it wasn't a one off - that he can also handle "second season" syndrome. Next season the goal has got to be top 10 - and demonstrating that all the signings of the past season can be built into a successful Premier League team, including managing Michael Keane's departure.

There's some more team building to be done. If Steven Defour can see that he is just one player in a good Premier League team that is lead by Sean Dyche then that will be tremendous. If Sean Dyche has to move Steven Defour on, then again, that is Sean Dyche demonstrating his team management skills and experience.

(Why does this have to be about Sean Dyche and Steven Defour? I kept wanting to type "SD").

I wondered how he fell out so badly with some of his previous clubs and fans - the mists are now parting.

We thought we knew best and that he should play. As so often - we didn't.

In my opinion, a waste of a really good footballer. A drain on resources, and quite possibly a drain on morale. For every wonderful piece of skill we witnessed, there were too many lightweight and insipid performances. Perhaps carrying an injury, perhaps not.

Frustrating for all, but with Defour's attitude and body language, is it any wonder Dyche used other players? His first aim was to keep us up, carrying passengers was hardly an option. I can just imagine how long Defour would have stuck around if we'd been relegated.

That's not to say we shouldn't keep searching for flair, Defour's good moments were some of this seaon's best bits.

IMO Defour always tried his best when he was on the pitch, he certainly wasn't lazy or lightweight, just in Sean Dyche,s opinion he wasn't fit enough and the actual minutes on the pitch and games out injured support that.

My favourite player but I have to agree. Shame. We never seem to get the best out of talented foreigners. Bikey was another albeit more of a loose cannon. Papadopoulos. Etc

This news isnt a surprise aaand we knew he was off.

Hopefully we can improve in this area. Its essential if we are to progress.

But we cant have players disrupting the dressing room. Its not what Dyche has worked so hard for over his spell here. He has revolutionised the club and much of that is down to that attitude and togethernes instilled in the team.

No player is bigger than Dyche and no player is bigger thn BFC.

He has two years left on his contract so if he does go in the summer it'll only be if it suits the club.

Sounds like a load of nonsense to me. Seen Defour interviewed and he does not come across as a stupid man. Very much doubt he expects the club to chose him over Dyche. All the stuff about body language is nonsense too he always looked the same ever since he arrived it's just the way he is. He seemed fit enough to me to start with. Remember seeing him taken off early in games when he was still doing well and seem frustrated to be coming off. Then he had a couple of injuries and struggled. The stuff about him not being suited to the Premier League is absolute tripe as well. He is not suited to the direct style we play maybe but would be fine in other teams. We need to start finding a way to get better footballers into the team if we are going to improve. We won't stay up again doing the same as we did this season. Just a shame the timing of him being here was wrong and he didn't fit into how Dyche wanted us to play this season.

You think his next stop is likely to be the Championship ? Someone who has become one of our all time greats and his next club will be outside the top flight ?

No club in the Premier league would want him ? No main league across Europe ?

If there is any truth in this story I will be amazed if in the next 24 hours there aren't some who would rather lose Dyche coming out and saying so.

Not an analysis - I am not a psychologist or whatever. But in one of the last 2 matches, when the TV cameras panned into our dugout he was the only one caught yawning a couple of times

Didn't seem to be too interested in the match and how his team mates were doing.
